Teenagers

Your teenager's taste in music.

I guess it's a parent's duty to dislike their music Grin.
Old fogey here so it's only to be expected that I would have different taste.

DS2 is 14 and has very eclectic taste. He likes the stuff I listen to and he was brought up on all kinds from early Pink Floyd to Leonard Cohen and the Pogues. He has introduced me to some great stuff I'd never have found myself.

DS1, 16, on the other hand, is not a music lover. If he was he wouldn't listen to the horrendous racket that he finds on YouTube. It's Dubstep apparently. Only to be played with enough bass to vibrate the walls. Now I like a bit of rock so it's not the volume, more the lack of tune.

Ds not yet a teenager but age 11 already an avid music lover. Tastes eclectic, Abba to the Black Keys, The Who, Wings, Black Eyed Peas, Beethoven! It's wonderful watching it all unfold.

DD1 showed me this on youtube - its called what dubstep sounds like to your parents

DD2 plays Taylor Swift on an infinite loop when she is home from university which make me want to scream.

DS 17 totally eclectic. A rock man at heart into Led Zep, Floyd but also the more modern practitioners of the art. Got all the Beatles albums and a fair bit of the Stones enjoys Capercaillie.

Went with him last nnight to see Nightwish in Brum - crackin :-)

The first music my DS really got in to was The Beach Boys and ELO. I can live with that. He also listens to all sorts of other stuff as well, half of which I've never even heard of and most of which I like. I think he gets some of it from the background music on games like SSX and FIFA and the rest either through trawling my CD collection or via friends. Luckily he hasn't got into dubstep as although I am partial to many sorts of noisy, grimy electronica, dubstep really doesn't do it for me.

DD either listens to The Killers, Adele, or american tweenies disney pop (Demi Lovato, Taylor Swift et al).

webwiz T at's it exactly. I will put it on a loop at full volume when he's trying to watch T.V.
DS2 joins me in tutting at DS1's choice.

Luckily, both my DCs have been (brainwashed) exposed to my wide ranging musical tastes since before birth. My job here is done haha!

Oh, and I don't mind a bit of dub step tbh!

I like One Direction and Taylor Swift but can leave Justin Bieber out but DD1 (15) really thinks once he sees her he will dump Selena and marry her Hmm
