there's a long thread here ,
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/teenagers/1510787-19-yr-old-daughter-just-failed-first-year-at-uni-studies-terminated-what-can-we-do-long-sorry

have a feeling that if DS might appeal then time is of the essence .

sorry you are going thru this ,but received wisdom is that unis will try hard ( re sits etc ) to prevent student from having to leave .

Good Luck

DD2 has some very complicated regulations for her course that state what happens when you get various marks for modules and various overall scores. She can get to them by logging into the university "portal".

Does your DS have access to something similar?

For DD2's course if you fail one module but your overall average is above the pass mark then you have the option to resit it in August.

Is the failure for coursework or exam? At my university there are resit opportunities for coursework and/or exams in August. Although the marks are capped at 40%, this is enough to pass as long as the overall module average is 40% or above.

If no retaking is available, your DS may be able to continue next year and retake this module alongside his second year choices.... as long as the one failed isn't a pre-requisite.

The course regulations will be available somewhere on the student portal and your DS should have a handbook with it all in too.
