What's reasonable on a school night? On a weekend?

DD is supposed to be in bed at 9.30. is rarely in before 10.

at the weekends I go to bed between 10 and 11 so she goes at the same time.

I long for the days when i could put them up at 6.30.

Depends on how much sleep they need - my DS1 (13) goes to his room around 8ish on a school night, but reads/watches TV/sneakily does last minute homework until 9.30/10. It sounds a bit mean, but I value time that's just me and DH (we don't get it during holidays or at weekends Smile) and the DCs are happy to do their own thing in their rooms.

He goes to his room quite early (great help in getting the others to go up, if he is!) Lights out between 9 and 9.30.

Weekends by negotiation - depends what he's up to.

Well DD2 is 14, but hers is 10.30pm on a school night and at a weekend and in holidays it depends - most of the time she's pretty good at going to bed without being told by about midnight, if she's still up after midnight but has been good then I try to leave her be, if she's been a PITA then it's bed at midnight without a choice.

I quite often get the 'but I'm not even tired, I won't be able to sleep!!' line - but I've found the 'well so long as your light is off and you're in bed you can lie there awake as long as you like' line is a good counter attack Grin

10 to 10.30 to be upstairs and quiet as 10 year old younger sister is perfectly reasonable until about 10.20 then she just switches off and anyone waking her up is liable to regret it.
Sometimes she draws, or watches iplayer. Often she reads, lights out at midnight officially, I don't always check and I know she can be a bit silly, but so am I about bed timeBlush

Grrr, that was DD1 I can't sleep right out side DD2s door. Her life will be short if DD2 hears her. I forgot to tell DD2 the clocks went back and she got up far too early.

My 12 yr old ds goes to bed at 9 school nights and about 10 ish weekends...but earlier if he gets on my nerves...he needs his sleep and gets very ratty where on the other hand my 14 yr old ds is always in his room anyway and goes to sleep between 12-1 most days (although sometimes it's about 11) and later at weekends and then sleeps until midday!!

13 year old DS goes 9pm school nights and around 10 at weekends, but he likes his bed.

When mine turn 13 in a few months, I'm putting their schoolnight bedtime back to 9.30, weekends 10pm.

9pm school night, 9.30 weekends.

We go to bed at 9.30-10 during the week, not having a child up later than us Grin

When she feels like it. Sometimes 9pm more likely 11pm.
She is always in her room by then, but reading or messaging her friends.

DS nearly 14 - lights out at 10.30 during the week.
Weekends
Friday - whenever really as it's our Sunday so to speak
Saturday - by midnight as he has to be at cadets by 10.00am

DS1 usually goes up to his room at about 8.30 as that is when I get control of the TV remote! Grin He could stay down and watch with me but prefers to go upstairs and shower and read for a while. Lights out at 9.45 on a school night, probably a bit later at the weekend.

My DD 14 hasn't had a bedtime since she started secondary. She is pretty good at self regulating and puts herself to bed when she is tired usually about 10ish

My DD1 (15) goes at 10pm unless she's been at her sports/dance classes, in which case it's usually nearer 11pm (trains until 9.30pm, home by 10.15pm, showered etc by 11).

DD2 (13) goes at 9.30pm unless she's been at sports/dance classes, and then again it's usually 11pm.

Weekends, they can pretty much go whenever, although if it gets past midnight I'd probably say something. I'd expect them to be quiet after about 9pm though as DD3 and DD4 would usually be in bed by then.

Thanks you so much. There's lots of variation here and just goes to show that different children do need different amount of sleep, which I sort of knew, but anyway! I think I'm being a bit unreasonable in wanting to stick to 9pm on a school night and 10 on a weekend, as she's clearly not tired, so think I will exxtend it and see how things go. Thanks a lot for all you comments.

My 13 yr old DS is in bed at 9 on a school night, 10ish on a weekend,
my 10 yr old DS 8.30 9.30ish on a weekend
They both need theyre sleep, as I have to wake DS1 up of a school morning and DS2 is an early waker 6amish so is tired by 8-9pm.

Oh and I know most of their friends go up later than that, but they dont seem bothered by it.

I always had to be home by 10.30 and bedded by 11 at 13, unless it was the weekend i could stay up late or my mum was in one of her good moods :)

My 13 year old DS goes to bed after the news on a school night 10.35pm

At the weekend and on holidays he pleases himself really unless it is getting exceptionaly late (half midnight) when we give him a reminder to go to bed. Sometimes he will take himself up earlier if he feels like eg 9.00pm

Unless we have to be up for something in particular on non school days I'm not tooo bothered. I like us being up together chatting and either reading or watching a film or something.
I let him stay in bed until about 9.30 on weekends if there is nothing planned, that said it isn't very often when nothing is planned as we usually go out cycling or walking in the hills.

It must depend partly on what time they get up? Dd is lights off somewhere between 9pm and 9:30 and gets up at 7am.
