just wondering (on average) at what age girls/ boys reach full height and when their feet stop growing?

boys around 20y, girls about a year after their periods start (something to do with the hormones).

Feet stop growing first, about a year or so later the rest stops.

so pretty much when the periods start, the feet finish growing?! Wow! That is sort of what I am experiencing with DDs...and I was figuring that at 14 or so (2-3 years after her periods started) DD1 had finished growing (upwards anyway).

There is competition in our household regarding height, shoe size etc!! And it looks like DD2 is going to win by a head...

Oh and are you telling me that DS's feet are going to keep growing until he's 20???? He grows about half a size a month as far as I can tell and he's got YEARS to go yet!!!

Not sure the feet thing is true. DS1 was in size 11s at 13 years old and 5'11. He's now nearly 16 and 6'2 but his feet have stayed at size 11 thank goodness. Even size 11s can be hard to find particularly in running spikes.

I seem to remember (it was quite a long time ago) that by the time my mother stopped making me wear Clarke's shoes and allowed me to go to Dolcis instead, my feet were the same 6 1/2 that they are now. I was in the first year of secondary school (had to start in a sensible pair of Mary Janes. the shame).

I remember having a bet on with my sister if my brother will hit the 6f mark by his 18th birthday. I lost. he was 6ft by 18.5...

Certainly girls stop growing a couple of years after periods start. My DD was quite tall but was an early starter. Lots of her friends overtook her in height and were average age development wise.

At the moment me and my DCs all wear the same shoes and we range in age from pre-teen, mid- teens, and above. It's quite fun because I have a wide range of shoe to selct from and I can experiment with wearing shoes I wouldn't dream of buying for myself. Love it!

Don't rely on girls stopping growing - I grew a good inch between ages 18 - 21 (though of course by then I had to buy my own clothes Grin )

DS1 kept growing until about 18, I think - but yes, the feet steadied at about 15/16, I think.

I thought it was 2 years after periods started, which was about right for me and dd. She is 14 in a few weeks and doesn't seem to have grown much in the last 6 months. She is about 5'5. I stopped growing when I was 14. Periods started at 12.
DS is 16 in two weeks and is a size 11 shoe and 6 foot. He was measured at hospital in january but I don't think he has grown since then. He has been wearing the same converses for a year.

thank you all so much...I have shared your wisdom with DDs, who are either pleased as punch or a bit miffed...depending on current age, shoe size and height!

No wonder I'm a short arse! I started my periods at 10,so that means I stopped growing at 11/12 Sad I wish someone would have told my tits, because it seems they were unaware everything else had ceased to enlarge Hmm

Yep, it's not great to start periods early. Seems like the younger you start the shorter you are with the biggest tits Grin. Still you cannot interfere with Mother Nature. I was the same and DD too although I only read about periods/height correlation later on the internet.

Starting later doesn't help either. I was the last of all my friends at 14 and I'm also the smallest and rather flat chested.

How old were you when you stopped growing, waswondering? And did your hormones trick your tits into a continous growth spurt?

Report
adamschic · 02/09/2011 19:53

I think it's true with boys aswell. A friend of mine who is a strapping 6ft 3 said he was short at 16 and had a late growth spurt.

DB, 23, 6'5", size 13 feet

Dunno, but DD1 is 13 and her feet haven't grown in 2 years. I haven't measured her height much but if she's grown it isn't a lot. Periods started a year ago. So maybe that's it, she's going to be short!
