Airsoft BB gun skirmish battles - any experience of these?

My 16 year old has friends who get together on private woodland to take part in what they call 'skirmishes' - a bit like paintballing battles but using brightly coloured airsoft BB guns with coloured plastic pellets. My son would like to join them but I am very very wary !
Does anyone have experience of this?

Thank-you

My DS has been to an organised airsoft game but they were in an arena and strictly marshalled with full safety gear, much like paintballing.
I would be very wary of a bunch of unsupervised testosterone fueled 16 year olds playing in the woods.

DS occasionally goes to an organised skirmish and loves it. IT'S quite expensive though, he's spent hundreds on all the guns and gear plus £25 a day.

They have to wear full face masks and he has a helmet as well, so I'm not concerned about safety
