DS2 has made it clear that when he reaches 12 I will not be allowed to be seen in his presence when he is in public.

He is only 8 hmm

Thats the problem. I dont drive and neither does DW. Its being seen with him walking in the street that is the problem.

Even now, DS1 and DS2 walk 10 yards ahead of us pretending we are not really with them.

I feel your pain (13yo ds)

was discussing his general awfulness with dp today, and both of us realised we were just as bad

in fact I plan to email my mother to say sorry later on today

SpringHeeledJack Tue 14-Dec-10 14:31:21

BeenBeta my ds won't walk next to me either, unless we're on holiday. Then he holds hands (his insistence, not mine)

grin

Surely it's a parent's duty to embarrass their teenage children at any given opportunity.

DS2 has just arrived home and announced he will not be wearing a coat when we go out tonight and he will be wearing a T shirt.

I blame his mother - she is from Newcastle.

EldritchCleavage Tue 14-Dec-10 16:01:14

Use it. I used to get my most stubborn nephew to do things when I visited by telling him I'd kiss him in front of his friends if he didn't. Heh heh.

SpringHeeledJack Tue 14-Dec-10 16:07:34

BeenBeta- there are kids round here (SE London) whose only concession to the recent cold snap is to wear their school jumper

shock

their bonkersness knows no regional variation

GrungeBlobPrimpants Tue 14-Dec-10 16:12:31

When I saw the thread title I thought it was about teen sex grin

But re the OP - perfectly normal. My dc's now walk at least 50 paces behind/in front of me. Bit like magnetic repulsion

I remember doing the same with my mum at about the same age (I had never been a child, just the beautiful wise cool nearly adult I was now, iykwim- it was like 1984, and she was required to erase my childhood from her memory banks) and she was heartbroken

I saw it as her pissing on my Grown Up chips and was quite cross- and swore I wouldn't do it to my kids

I can see now that that must be very, very hard...

awww, I can't talk

my teenage rhino hide is already paper thin, I tell you, and ds is only 13

good luck- he's just trying to break away a bit. He'll be great when he's twenty smile
