Dp has just knocked my iPhone in my cuppa.

Screen slowly went black and thought phone had gone off but flash was flickering for a bit.

Then it got really bloody hot like it was going to set on fire.

It's cold now - is there any saving it or am I best calling my house insurance/bank account insurance to replace it?

Thanks!

Put it into a bag of rice (lots of rice) and leave it for a good while

It will never be the same again but put it completely inside a bag of rice or cous cous and leave it there for 2-3 days. You may be able to use it but functions like the camera may not work and the screen will have liquid marks on it.

This is what happened to DD's iPhone which fell into into a glass of water beside her bed. It's useable but the camera is knackered and the screen looks odd.

Dh's fell in a puddle, it died. Water damage often an exclusion.

Ah shit! Does that mean insurance won't pay out?

Maybe not. There will be a water damage indicator somewhere.

I dropped mine down the toilet when I was in hospital. It was fine at first then got really hot and died. I was gutted, obvs.

DP took it with him and put it on the dashboard of his car so the glare from the sun could bake it so to speak. I think he got this tip from the internet. A few days later he turned it on and it was fine. No damage what so ever! Still working fine 4 years later.

House insurance will pay if you have accidental damage cover.

Bag of rice, leave some where warm for several days then give it a try.

I think the fact that it was on, got really hot and then died might mean it has short circuited due to the water. Which I think might mean it is properly dead :(

The standard procedure for a phone that's been for a swim is to turn it off immediately and put in rice for a minimum of 24 hours but the longer the better.

It's been 24 hours in rice and it's not turning on.... I daren't plug it in.

Thankfully my home insurance covers accidental damage so I will give them a call I think.

I think whoever said they think it's properly dead is right. It was so hot I wouldn't be surprised if all the insides had melted/frazzled

Make sure you back up to iCloud NOW before it dies on you

It's absolutely dead unfortunately but when I had a panic that I'd lost all the pics of my baby trusty dp reminded me he set it up so that everything goes to my iPad and iCloud I don't know how to use iCloud
