Recommend me a tablet please

I keep finding responses for "best tablet for my 5/7/12 year old" so am feeling a bit and over-grown to be asking this but needs must so here goes: I don't need a phone and don't want a smart phone but do need to be able to access emails while away from home (and my ancient trusty desktop). I also like reading MN and watching Netflix and that's about the extent of what I will need a tablet for. I do not want an apple product as have had horrible response from them re broken apple appliance so anything other than ipad's. What should I be getting???
