This project is being conducted as part of my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy) and has been granted ethical approval from the University of Glasgow’s College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences. The study complies with the data protection act and no participant will be identifiable in any of the write-ups. It has also been registered as a randomised controlled trial with the ISRCTN.

If you recognise any of the symptoms described above we hope that our online course would help you learn life skills to reduce stress and anxiety, improve your mood and help build closeness to your baby. We hope to recruit 60 mums with babies under one year old. If you think you might benefit from this please visit the project website

Enjoy your baby, life skills for mums with new babies UP TO 18 MONTHS OLD

Have you recently become a mum? Do you have a child under 18 months old?

Low mood? Stressed out? Anxious? Worried? Mind racing? Can’t be bothered doing things? Feeling overwhelmed? Lost your confidence?

Do you feel like this?

Would you be interested in taking part in a research project of a new online resource designed specifically to help mums who have young children, and are experiencing low mood, stress or worry?

My name is Claire Adey and I am working with Professor Chris Williams, an expert in cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) at the University of Glasgow. This research is part of my training as a clinical psychologist (Doctorate in Clinical Psychology). The project and has been granted ethical approval from the University of Glasgow and complies with the data protection act. All data will be stored securely and no participant will be identifiable in any of the write-up.

Lots of people experience low mood, stress and anxiety at times throughout their life. The first year after becoming a mum is a very common time for women to feel like this. This is a really important time for mums and their babies and we would like to help make this as enjoyable as possible. Research shows that many people like to use self-help materials online or from books to gain information and skills. Evidence is growing to show that online life skills training can help and it works best if it is relevant to the people that are using it. That’s why this project has been designed specifically for mums with a baby under 18 MONTHS old. The project has been successfully run in Canada and Wales so far.

This research study offers a support course using the cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) approach and may be of interest to you. The course is designed specifically to help mums who have young children, and are experiencing low mood, stress or worry. It aims to teach mums skills to improve their coping and mood, and help build closeness to their babies and is available online so you can use it when you wish. Support is also provided from a member of the lifeskills4mums team by email.
