Breeder refuses Eglu

HI all, I have an Eglu go up with 3 metre run arriving next week. I contacted a local breeder for two dwarf lops and she said in a disgusted tone that they would never home to someone with an Eglu. :( I am very worried about foxes and we are rural and this run got the best reviews for safety. Is it really so bad for two mini rabbits? She said they were too small but I thought with the run it would be good, plus was planning on the tunnel extender. I know people that just have a hutch no run so I thought I was doing right by them and have spent what seems like one million pounds on kit :( would you return it?
Also, where do you get rabbits??? I know that buying over the internet isn't a great plan but where is a responsible place to buy them?
I would appreciate all your thoughts - particularly positive Eglu reviews as we (were) all excited to get one!

I don’t know about Eglus, but try rescues for rabbits rather than breeders. I’ve had 3 amazing house bunnies all from rescues.

And having just googled Eglus, I’m afraid I agree with the breeder- it looks tiny to me.

I think it is a bit small (a rabbit enclosure should be at least 60 square feet), but that doesn't excuse her "disgusted" tone. Good breeders should be able to tell when someone just needs some guidance and should be willing to offer it kindly. I would honestly steer clear of this breeder, because if this is anything to go by, she might be equally unhelpful a few months down the line when one of the rabbits is sick and you need advice.

There are so many rabbits in rescue that buying from breeders tends to be discouraged anyway. Join a rabbit group on Facebook and ask about local rescues or search for "rabbit rescues + your area" and see what comes up. A reputable rescue will vaccinate and neuter all rabbits before rehoming them, so avoid any that don't.

Yes, I would return the Eglu. They're very expensive for what they are. A good rescue or rabbit group will also be able to guide you on proper housing. Smile

They’re tiny. You need to read up on what rabbits actually need.

Thank you. I have contacted all the local rescues and had no luck but in some cases no word back so I’ll try them again. I’ll get advice on the hutch from them too. I did research but I think omlet/eglu have bought the internet, they come up in so many searches and rabbit chats with absolutely glowing reviews Confused
Appreciate the post user127819 Smile

Adopt don’t shop! Be patient with rescues, it can take a few days to hear back. Rescue rabbits will be properly bonded (babies are not bonded!), neutered and up to date on vaccines.

I’m also team eglus-are-icky I’m afraid. I have a custom made set up with a 6x4 shed and 10x5 roofed aviary.

This is a good read for rabbit housing:

Thank you all - update: returned the stupid eglu! Luckily it hadn’t been despatched. Spoke to a lovely rescue who I have applied with for a bonded pair of bunnies (2and 5 year olds) and got advice on a hutch and run plus extra walk in run combo which are enormous 🤣 but still cheaper than the eglu and look really good. I hope we are successful and I feel really positive about adopting rather than going through a breeder, had some great advice and thank you for replying on here :)

Would you consider having them in the house. We love having house bunnies. They are very easy to toilet train.
