Lost piggy this morning - what to do with remaining one??

Lost one of my (bonded male) guinea pigs this morning with an abdominal tumour...he was only 14 months old ☹️☹️
That leaves my other furry boy by himself - what is the best option for him? Castration and a new sow, or......??
Any thoughts welcomed!

Aahhh, we lost one out our boars 2 weeks ago after a kidney stone op, they were together for 4 years, we waited a week then for our remaining one a new friend who is 2 months old. It took a few days to get used to each other. It they are getting on great now, had the new one for a week.

Sorry to hear about your GP

I know my local guinea pig rescue offers a matching service. They’ll take your piggy for a few weeks and help them find a new partner. It might be worth finding out if you have something similar locally.

Sorry to hear of your loss.
I would give extra bedding for warmth while you choose your options.
A younger boar might be a fit, I am sure there are excellent sites to help with advice on gradual introductions.
I personally wouldn't have a sow just in case she was already pregnant.

Maybe try Everything guinea pig UK or Guinea pig rescue and rehome network Uk both on Facebook. Lots of very helpful people with tonnes of knowledge.
In my experience, if you want to add a bore to yours I would add a baby as your pig has a higher rate of accepting a baby and no more than one (if male). If you want to castrate him and add him to female/s you’ll need to wait 4-5 weeks after surgery.
You could always add a teddy in with your piggy for the mean time until you decide what you’d like to do as some people believe it gives them comfort but I have no experience of this personally.

We're in the same situation- what did you decide to do in the end? Our local guinea pig rescue is closed so no matching service, sadly. We put a teddy in the cage following the advice from the previous poster and he snuggles into it Sad so I definitely think we need to find him a new buddy.
