Guinea pigs - ramp

So I have a ramp in the cage that my pigs will go up but not down so they get stuck upstairs. Any ideas how to get them down! I’ve taken the ramp out and “taught” them to use it but it only seems to work up the stairs not down!

What surface is the ramp? Mine have always happily used it but my mums piggies won't use hers unless it has one of those tunnels attached. Those plastic tubes that are corrugated and extend that you can bend that are for them to hide/play in.

My mam attached hers to the ramp with cable ties and now all 3 of her piggies happily scuttle up and down.

My ramp has felt on it with little wooden ridges every 6 inches or so. My mums ramp is plain wood. One of her piggies was my piggy originally and she used the ramp quite happily with me so I can only assume they don't like smooth wood.

She even used it happily when heavily pregnant which was a bit of a surprise as she was supposed to be a he. 😁

Try hacking a cardboard box to make the ramp into a tunnel. Might help them feel more secure on it.

Sorry- I see that's exactly what PP said!

Thanks guys, that’s really helpful (esp the cardboard lowdoor! I’d like to check it works before buying a tunnel).
They’re very grumpy at me just now because I’ve just put the top storey on and it’s difficult to get them out.

It’s a pretty good ramp- it has spaced wood which is better to grip than the original one that came with it.

Wine crates are good tunnel boxes- they always have loads at my supermarket.

Fab thanks.

We did another training session today 😂😂😂

They seem to be trying to go down it now at least. Will go to pets at home today.
