Hamster question?

Our syrian hamster has a huge hamster heaven cage. She used to be in a largish pets at home cage and seemed happy enough. We have another home we go to quite often for a week at a time. Do you think it's ok to leave the old cage down there and take her in the car in a small travel cage rather than carting the big cage around? We did used to move the old cage around but the hamster heaven one would take up the whole boot. She seems pretty chilled in general...
Bit of a hamster novice...thanks!

Hi... So, here's the other hamster thread... ;)

Idk. We used to have guinea pigs and they always stayed in one place (a neighbour's kid fed them etc when we were away).

If it's short the cage siye probably won't matter? I just don't know if moving a hamster very often is smart. Don't they need a companion animal anyway?

I know nothing about hamsters tbh. Sorry ;)

Don't need to move it very often- just a few times a year and they need to be on their own.

I shall do a bit of googling I think!

Ah. If the journey isn't too long I'd put the little guy in a smaller cage.

I mean, our cat is also in a small cat carrier to go to the vet, right? (but as I said, I don't know anything about hamsters. Except that they have adorable cheeks!)

But if they are like guinea pigs then yes, they need a companion animal.

OMFG, your hamster has a holiday home...

Only the best for my (DDs) hamster- I may also get it another home somewhere nice and warm like Spain grin.

True. They're apparently supposed to be kept alone....

I also want a 3rd home in Spain... But I don't think I can pretend I'm buying it for our cat. She hates being moved...

Honestly, I don't think keeping an animal in a smaller cage for a short amount of time is bad. If you bring them to the vet they're also in small boxes. And cat carriers or horse boxes aren't bad for the critters either, right?

Oh, I'd definitely do that. I love our Syrians. They have travelled with us on holiday.
