Lost bunny. Can't sleep.

Our lovely bunny was chased out of our garden today by stupid young cat. She ran under the gate and literally vanished into thin air. We are surrounded by fields full of foxes and buzzards, bot to mention a main road. She is part of a pair and her mate is sitting on his chair tonight in front of the fire looing very forlorn. We have hunted high and low and it is freezing outside. I have a terrible feeling that we have seen the last of her. So upset.

Oh, I'm sorry.

That's really rough. But, they kind of lack a homing instinct. Fingers crossed she'll rock up, nose all of a-twitch, ready to eat her own poo. Hope so, we take these wee things into our hearts, eh?

Oh no, you poor thing!
I used to have rabbits and they seemed to escape too often! Not to build your hopes up too much, but ours 'came back' every single time. I say it like that because they were often found by us, hiding, after the longest few days of my life! Once underneath next doors shed. Once, behind our fence in the weeds, after being missing for 4 or 5 days. And once, after going missing for a week, sat bold as brass in the middle of the lawn one morning!
We also had foxes nearby and ours managed to evade them. Fingers crossed for you though, I remember how heartbreaking it was.

We lost a rabbit in a built up suburb and found her 48 hours later, we just kept on searching. Don't give up, she might not have gone too far.

To cheer you up, our neighbours bunnies went feral - no hutch could contain them. They lived for years under their decking and no fox ever got them. You could tempt them home with raisins? Ours would do anything for a raisin.

Thank you fellow bunny lovers for these messages of hope. it's funny as the kids have shrugged their shoulders and gone off to bed while dh and I are conducting a vigil. She has spent every day of her four years in the garden and never once went outside (even though the gates were often open). But the bloody cat sent her into such a panic.

No sign. It is like she disappeared into thin air. Have put a wanted posted on the gate. To make it worse, we are in prime hunting territory. Anyone want a cat?

Yes that's what I think, but dh says a fox would have just carried her off. Just in from posting flyers in the neighbouring postboxes and beating the life out of every clump of grass in a five mile radius! Will try to remain optimistic but it will be night two soon....

IME they are really VERY good at hiding and no amount of searching will find them! We only happened to find ours as they were spotted or heard when we'd given up hope of finding them, and they soon scarpered again when they realised we were there!
I bet it's still around, just enjoying its freedom!

yep she is also golden brown and perfectly camouflaged. We have a neighbor at the end of the lane who has leased his barn to someone with two horses, so lots of cosy straw plus chickens pecking around. We are sort of comforting ourselves tonight that she might be in there. I seriously need to get a grip, it is the thought that she is alive and cold/hungry/ trapped that is driving me nuts.
And then we have the grieving widower to sort out.

No we didn't find her. We have been out every day hunting but are sadly coming to the realization that she is gone. Both dh and I are devastated, which seems an over the top reaction for a rabbit to many people (my French colleagues were joking today about how she will have ended up in someone's pot...such empathy). Poor old bereft rabbit is so sad. We have him sitting with us in front of the fire, but tbh, he was not the people person - she was. Sorry, bit of an essay, but good to share with like minded bunny lovers.

So kind. I remember when we got these rabbits being dismayed that they could live so long (I had thought a few short years).Fast forward four years and we were putting hot water bottles in their cages and practically tucking them in. Who'd have thought?

Well, dang. So sorry you are missing your girl. My old lady cat went missing for three days two weeks ago. I was beside myself. She has never been outside all night, certainly not in the winter. By some grace, I came up the walk, to find her curled up in pile of leaves in corner of porch

I'm sending hugs to you and her poor old mate..

Is there a rabbit rescue nearby? They might have an adult female that could bond with him. Or, at least, share your mutterings about cats. Sorry about your bunny, shame. x

Have you checked she hasn't been handed in to a bunny resuce to see if it has been handed in?

Oh we found her just now lying about 4 metres away from the house by the road. Completely unscathed but most definitely dead. Why didn't she come home? Could she have been glanced by a car and yet be without any sign of injury? I am torturing myself with the thought that she froze to death on our doorstep. Never was there a rabbit so sorely missed
