Ill rabbit

I have an appointment with the vet this afternoon, just wondered if anyone has had similar.

I have a dwarf lop cross who is about 7 (I think) he has been slowing down lately but still eating, grooming etc well. Over the last week he has lost a lot of weight and seems quite weak although still eating well and is looking a bit grubby. He is just sitting in his bedroom a lot and today I think he looks like his eyesight is going too.

Does this sound like any particular condition/issue to anyone? I've had quite a few rabbits and never had one go like this before but my gut feeling is it is just old age and I'm preparing myself that the vet may well recommend he is PTS today

Thanks Fernie; the vet was quite flummoxed, I think but told me to give him a bath (he was pretty grubby), try and feed him up and bring him back in a few days. I bathed him last night but he wasn't interested in food since we got back from the vet. My husband has just checked on him and he has died it must've happened over the last few hours as we'd been checking him. I feel fucking awful that bathing him was too much stress and tipped him over the edge, he was very weak

The vet gave him painkillers and antibiotics too, I forgot to say. So hopefully he wasn't too uncomfortable, poor little thing.

Sorry to hear this. Don't beat yourself up over bathing him. It sounds as though he was 'winding down' anyway. He may secretly have liked the fuss and attention but being a rabbit wouldn't show that. Seven is a good age so it probably was just old age and at least he went quietly in his own home.

Thank-you, you're very kind I think he was winding down, I'm glad he was safe and warm at home I just wish I'd left him alone in peace.
