Itchy scratchy bald patchy hamster

We have a lovely jolly golden hamster, about 6 months old. He doesn't seem unwell at all, but has developed a small bald patch on his side. He is also grooming a lot, and trying to scratch himself on various things. Having googled, I think he might have mites.

I will treat him just in case, but just wondered if anyone else had had hamster mites, and to check that if he doesn't have them that using the treatment won't harm him? Obviously if he doesn't seem more comfortable, I'll take him to the vet.

DS's hamster recently got a bald patch on her nose.

We took her to the vet, who diagnosed a fungal infection, and gave us some ointment to apply. (Easier said than done!) we had to do it for 5 days, and it's all better now, and the hair has grown back.

I would take him to the vet, if I were you. You could mess around treating mites, and it turns out to be something entirely different.

Thank you, I think you're probably right. I don't want to mess him about, he is a dear little thing!
