GP bedding

Ok so most of you seem to keep gps indoors. Ours are out in summer, in for winter and half and half the rest of the time. The thing is I've noticed how many of you keep them in the living room. I adore our gps but there is no way they could be in our living room permanently. The smell would be too strong.
They have shavings for bedding plus hay to snuggle into. I've bought a corner toilet thingy which we line with newspaper. It's had a limited effect (it's used but other parts of the cage are too).
Every day the droppings are cleaned out plus any wet shavings. However, there is still a definite whiff. I'm sure some is actually from the hay and nuggets more than the guinea pigs tbh.
What other bedding options are out there?

I gave up on shavings years ago - far too messy. Mine have layers of newspaper and then I put hay in their igloos. I roll up the newspaper and replace it almost daily. There is still a slight whiff but I'm okay with that (weird country girl who loves the whole farm smell thing Wink).

In winter they sometimes have old towels instead of newspaper just cos they're snugglier but it is difficult to pick all the hay and poo off them.

We use Ecobale in the Pighouse -it's an equine bedding , chopped up cardboard with no smell except cardboard Grin
They have this across the entire floor which they do keep very clean (impressed) , the Haybox is changed daily, I have 3 pigs peeing for Britain. In the haybox they have Ecobale on cardboard, newspaper and hay. That's what they like to sleep in and it fulfills their natural need to forage.

Inside this winter, I have some 'grids' like C&C is made of (it came from Costco, currantly living as a storage unit but waiting to be converted to piggie housing)

They can have hay in a rack and puppy pads + paper (I'm looking for big rolls of paper that is pig-safe) + fleeces. Theory is (ha) I can shake the fleeces, roll up the paper and puppy pads and throw away , then replace daily.
Last year our boars kept the Pighouse nicer because they seem to pee more at night.

I found the hay was the strongest aroma though.

I've been looking at the fleeces - seems quite an American idea? Are they guinea pig specific fleeces?
Our gps wee where there's newspaper so if we lined the whole cage with it they'd wee everywhere !
