My GP died this morning

He'd been ill for about a week - spent two days at the vet with his brother for company, then came home as they couldn't work out what was wrong with him and couldn't do anything else for him. He seemed bad yesterday morning so took him back, at which point he perked up and had a good time investigating the surgery. As I said at the time, part of me thought he should be put down but he certainly wasn't giving up so I wasn't either.

Woke up this morning and he really was not in a good way at all. So I brought him in to bed with me and he spent and hour snuggled up as close as he could get to me. He then moved away, and I brought his brother over to see him. Went to put him back into his cage but he started fitting so I got back into bed and he fell asleep in my arms. I then had to get up so put him in the cage, came back two mins later and he was gone. Think he wanted to die alone.

He was a darling. He only one of the three I had who ever wanted to snuggle. And he fought so much the last few days.

RIP wee one. xxx

Very Sad Rabbits they are so vunerable aren't they when they are dying.

On one hand you want to keep them going, on the other you think "Go now, while I know you are at peace".

He knew at the end he was with those he needed and loved (and yes guinea-pigs are loved and can love back - for all those people who will say to you it's just a guinea-pig )

Our GP2 died in my arms with his brother beside him.
Our GP1 died in his Pighouse with GP3 beside him.

When they have a peaceful passing you know you've done all you can.
But similarly when you have to make the very hard decision to PTS , you know you are doing all you can.

Off to The Rainbow Bridge now HarePig. You sound like a little star, there are many that are waiting to show you the clover meadows.

Thanks 70 - he certainly was a wee star. I'd bring them into the kitchen whilst I cleaned their hutch as it made things easier, and I always had to sit on the floor so he could climb up on to my lap for a cuddle. I'd occasionally force his brother onto a lap, and GP3 (the one who died today) would get so jealous. That's why I could bring him into bed today - he was the only one of the three who liked being held.

Not sure what to do with GP2 now. He's hyperactive and I'm not sure how another guinea would take to him. I'm tempted to keep him indoors on his own.

Rabbits, my condolences.

It is so sad when a much loved pet dies and you'll feel the void they leave behind for a long time.
It sounds like he had a good death and you should be proud of that and take some comfort from it.
Thanks
