wasn't expecting that!!

Thought he had been sexed by owner who had him for THREE years before my neighbour rescued him/her. When Boris arrived at my friend's house it was therefore never an issue, he was a boy..., however, I noticed his arrival caused the resident boars to go doolally, if you remember, and all three of them had to live in separate cages. Boris has settled in, has put on weight, and is really enjoying life, but on closer inspection ( and we all know guineas are so difficult to sex), I am convinced he is a she. do any of you know at what age guineas stop being fertile? and please remind me of gestation periods as a precaution. Boris has been out in the run with one of the boars Shock. but no fighting or humping.....is she/he too old, we think he is about four now. I am secretly delighted at the prospect of blonde rosette babies, but don't think my friend is!!!!!!

Boris would be too old to deliver a first litter now, as i recall if they don't have a litter by their first birthday, their pelvis fuses and the large babies can't be delivered, obviously this is life threatening for mother and babies

I've bumped the Original Boris Thread........

And I'm not one to say "I told Ya" but can I draw your attention to my post at 17.50 pm. Wink

"Are you sure NewBoy is 100% boy"

I reckon if your new piggie was going to get upduffed it would've happened by now? He's been there since Sept IIRC.

If Boris is a boar (and uneutered - unlikely his previous home would've had him done though) his "gentlemans vegetables" should be fairly visible.
And if you do a gentle squeeze to the side you should see the evidence (and earn yourself a few judgey looks)

70 you were spot on...... I can't believe I never thought to check, just took her at face value after being told her back story by the owner. Because the dear soul had that big abscess after being so nervous all the time, no-one cuddled her for a long time, stroked and cooed to,yes, but not picked up and examined. there are certainly no vegetables on view. I must get a photo, as she/ he ( what is the female equivalent of Boris!!) is the sweetestguinea I have ever seen, but very, very tiny... xxx bless.

When I was 8-9 yo I read the "Olga da Polga" books.
Olga was taken away on holiday to 'make a new animal of herself' which she didn't relish, she was happy being a piggie.

She met Boris.......and had "furs and descendants" (not heirs and descendants, GPs don't have hair, they have silky soft fur )

So, could be Olga (did the vet check Boris's undercarriage at the abscess appointment? )

Did you read my post? It is important you don't allow your gp to get pregnant at this age.

yes, I was wondering why vet didn't mention this, er, slight misunderstanding....we have all been under this misapprehension for 5 months Blush.... the guinea mum is equally incredulous!!

however, all I can say, is that Borise, aka Olga, is a happy, contented little soul and it explains why handsome rosette boar 1 was going utterly demented trying to chew his way into her the other day, although pictures have been sent of them contentedly sitting side by side in the sunshine Shock

guineapiglet has the lovely blond dark eyed piggie been free running with the other pigs?

I know from your earlier posts that they had an upset fairly early on.
But if they'd DTD and a pregnancy occured, you'd know by now.

(GP gestation is 63-72 days ....so 9-10 weeks ? )

Definately need to keep them apart if there's a chance that Boris is a sow.

Shock Boris could be a Doris Confused

It amazes me when mixe ups happen in adult animals. Todd aka Old Boy was a runty little piggy but had huge saggy hairy balls Grin

I had a Boris guinea who turned out to be a Doris back in the 80's. Only found out when there were 2 extra sqinneys in the back of the cage.

Maybe it's something to do with the name?
