Killing weeds on the lawn, but keeping it safe for the guinea-pigs

I have never had such a horrendous lawn as I have at the moment.

It's dry enough on a good day to put the piggies out but we have got a real buttercup problem .

The last couple of years , I've either put a mat over a small patch of non-piggie weeds or dug them up with a sharp knife.
But if I do that now, I'll have no grass and my back won't talk to me Sad

I'm doing some online browsing but I'm guessing "Animal Safe" means your cat or dog can walk across it, not allowing a grass eating small animal to eat it.

I'm drawn towards those blow-torch weedkillers though......is that my only option?
Burn the weeds, hoik out the frazzled bits, repeat as required?
OK , the lawn will look a bit fugly, but grass recovers, eh?

the blow torch things are good.
you can then jut rake the dead stuff off and re-seed with lawn seeds.

Thanks mous
I've never had such a load of buttercups before.
Probably the lawn is recovering after being a swamp and the opportunistic weeds have taken advantage .

Need to get DH out with the mower- the pigs have vetoed lawn duty (apart from the very top bit of grass) Hog and Safety Rules Wink

we had a fox digging all winter and had all sorts of weeds taking the opportunity. but apart from very pretty purple flowers (look like tiny pansies) I dug them up and raked over.

Ooooh foxes Angry

There are two adults on my neighbours garage roof , but last night I saw a small fox (not sure if it's one of this years cubs already) sitting right outside my pigs door (Pigs have a wooden Playhouse )

I yelled Gerroutofityoumangeygit as I roared down the garden arms flailing.
Luckily the NDNs are used to my fox-related outbursts Blush

That's another thing to worry about - weeds and foxes.

My lawn is also looking rough mainly because we have a lot of moss. I'm going to opt for a lot of serious raking of moss and digging up of other weeds. I'm choosing to see it as exercise. Grin
