How would you go about getting Guinea Pigs.

I have sent the rescue several amails (how they request you communicate with them on both website and fb page). They have had time to update facebook with "look how cute" pictures but they havent had time to email me back and invite me for a chat or to say they cant help me.

I realise they may be busy but how are they rehoming anything if they are flat out ignoring people who want to help?

Hello henrietta!

The problem is local isnt actually that local. I cant drive at the moment due to broken leg and dh is at work so driving 40 mins after work when they may not even let us in is not going to make me very popular.

The website and facebook say not to fb them, landline doesnt work so email. Which I have.

If it any wonder people go to pet stores. I have been tryinv so hard to avoid that.

Im very surprised to read this usually rescues bend over backwards to help potential new owners. Im also surprised at their inadequate contact details. Other than turning up in person, the only other means of communicating would be a good fashioned letter! Im assuming you have tried other options on line such as rodents with attitude or the guineapig magazine who may be able to help your search. Wbereabouts are you?

In south east london. I have tried everything I know how but obviously may have missed something due to being a first timer.

Don't go to a pet shop! Try calling the rescue, failing that go on //www.preloved.co.uk , there are lots of knowledgeable breeders on there with babies and older piggies needing homes.

I would just like to add. Despite being first timers this is not a decision I have taken lightly. We really do want to do the right thing and to the best for our family and the gp.

We have the most enormous indoor cage from a reputable supplier. Pellets, half a bale of hay. My husband is making a secure outdoor run. The piggies will be mainly indoors as we get foxes in our garden. But we want them to get out when we are there to supervise. We will let thelm have the run of the livingroom on winter evenings. My daughter is old enough to be gentle. She can help though they will be my responsibility. I have looked into bedding and the types of veg etc they like and what they cant have.

Initially we were looking for a pair of sows but a bit more research says a well bonded pair of males would be fine etc.

I have been thinking of this years. Stupidly I thought the easy part would be finding a rescue....

Post on Facebook anyway? Mention you're not getting a reply by email and I bet they'll help. Could be something as simple as you sending from a Hotmail address and their email automatically filters that out as spam.

It must be all that talk of guinea pigs henrietta. I have been waiting 2 years to be in a situation we can give them the care, attention and space they need and now I am desperate!

Hi again, try reading some of these recent threads.... My memory has failed me and I can't remember the title, but someone in the last week in WEST LONDON wanted urgently to rehome two lovely sounding girl guineas - could you start a new thread asking for help on this, it could be the perfect match!

Found thread which I now see you are on!!! Is West London too far for you to get to? Maybe Looseleaf could be persuaded to bring them to you if the situation is desperate there? Worth pursuing!

I am currently with broken leg so travel is quite difficult. Though I have been talking to someone in a similar situation who is a lot closer. One of the owners kids has developed an allergy. I am quite hopeful but waiting with bated breath.

Ooh I've just spotted this iknew! We do indeed have 2 lovely sisters who love each other and are very rewarding but I just feel a bit overwhelmed as rehomed them on the condition could give them back but the old owners don't have time . Do pm me if interested and especially if you wouldn't mind us staying in touch with them if that wasn't too much !! But our dd especially is devoted to them and one in particular is super cuddly and affectionate

We are near West Kensington by the way and could drop them off . You sound like an amazing home and ours particularly enjoy coming inside as we bought an indoor cage too. They'd have a double tier hutch and large indoor cage if useful and are 2.5 or 3 and very healthy and glossy + love their veg!!

Ah you have terrible timing. Within last 3 hrs we just got out lovely boys home. You wouldnt believe the trouble we have been through to get them! They are (now) named dora and boots (yes I know they are both boars but that is what happens when you let a 4 and a half year old name them)

I now know of 2 more in my area that need a good home. Long story. Would take them myself but I think 4 boars is pushing it. If anyone is in need let me know and i will pass the details on. They come free with cage and everything

Well, not stricyly true. They get used to your voice and they'll understand the difference in the names. Ours have very different sounding names so they know who'who.

But all Dora and Boots want to hear is the fridge door opening, rustling of a veg bag and a "Hey, how are you chaps"

Boars are lovely. They like their own 'space'. And they have personality plus.
Enjoy them.

Dora is boots' bitch! Boots is also wriggly fast and completely nuts. Dora quite likes a cuddle.
