I think I have a problem

I got prescribed low dose sleeping tablets a long time ago. I panic at the thought of not having them. I go to bed determined not to take them but almost always do. On the rare nights I don’t, obviously I suffer with rebound insomnia. All suggestions welcome. I don’t like relying on the damned things.

Speak to your doctor, tell them your concerns and be very honest about how much you take and how you feel, they won't judge, they're there to help you. They might offer you a different tablet or maybe reduce the dosage gradually. A good thing to do would be to find the direct cause of your insomnia so you can sleep well without the use of medication. Hope that helps in some way, sorry I can't offer any more practical advice.

Thanks, I’ll try. I usually only take one tablet ( 5mg) occasionally an extra one. I take them because I have cPTSD and also regularly on high dose steroids.
I’m not so much scared of talking to the doctor about it from a possible addiction point of view, rather that they’ll think I’m completely daft as it’s such a low dose.
