Cocaine overdose 24 hours later- advice

(98 Posts)

I think I've overdosed on cocaine. I've been using it everyday for the last month and Thursday night had loads, and then I've suddenly stopped, realising what an idiot I am and that this isn't a way to cope.

Been feeling very ill and emergency services is not a option. I'm 24 hours clean if any of it and been trying to rest take it easy and eat and drink.

My symptoms in the last 24 hours have been

- tiredness
- panic attacks
- thundering heart rate
- hoy cold extremes
- chest pressure
- movement in the chest, and occasional massive heart flutter
- agitated
-very weak
- disoriented
- nauseous
- faint
- can't look at too much light or noise

These come and go with rest. How long until I feel ok?
Obviously I'm not going to touch any more. I've got a drug worker I'm seeing on Monday to help me co tinge not having any, but this has shocked me into not wanting any again. Have been convinced in last 24 hours I was going to die.

If I continue to rest etc, and ensure I get a good nights sleep tonight should I continue to feel brighter?

I've been taking aspirin/paracetamol (annadin) to thin blood and keep extreme temperatures at bay.

I have got some propranolol - should I take some now I've not had any coke for 24 hours? I know it's not advised to take beta blockers with cocaine, so I've waited24 hours before thinking it might be a good idea I take some.

This has been the shock and wake up call I needed in order to knock this on the head.

Any help appreciated- I can't ring emergency services or get to hospital so any tips will need to be self care ones

Thank you

You need medical advice though, OP. Nobody here can give you that.

Are there drugs helplines you can call?

gamerchick Sat 11-Mar-17 18:39:04

I personally wouldn't take beta blockers. I know the coke is probably out of your system but your heart has been in enough distress.

You really should speak to someone medically trained.

PollyHampton Sat 11-Mar-17 18:39:18

You need to ring a helpline to get specialist advice. Actually, you need medical attention but I guess you know that and have reasons not to access it. Be very careful about putting more medicine into your body.

Alice212 Sat 11-Mar-17 18:56:03

sorry OP but you do need medical attention. Is it that you can't access it because someone you live with will find out? Can you pretend to be going out or are you not well enough?

a freephone number in case it is of use 0800 77 66 00.

Stop self-medicating and get some help.

BumWad Sat 11-Mar-17 18:58:38

Agree get some medical help

lougle Sat 11-Mar-17 19:03:59

You say you can't get medical help. Is that because of your work? If it isn't, get medical help. If it is....well frankly, get medical help. You can't really mess around and you're putting your life at risk without it. flowers

Sounds like a shitty comedown tbh

Rest, food, water, sleep. Don't take anything else. You're going to still feel shit tomorrow, comedown is a good few days.

Amara123 Sat 11-Mar-17 19:16:58

You probably know this but coke can cause a heart attack/arrhythmias. You need medical care urgently, please go to a&e, you need an ecg.

KungFuEric Sat 11-Mar-17 19:19:40

Agree with the advice to stop self medicating. You're probably highly paranoid, rest up on the sofa, sleep, watch trash movies, drink fluids and eat.

The main thing is to remember this time and that you don't want to be here again.

coldhandswarmheart88 Sat 11-Mar-17 19:26:30

You're probably right- no more chemicals in my body- just letting it naturally come back to normal with rest - I'm feeling better already...what a wake up call I needed

coldhandswarmheart88 Sat 11-Mar-17 19:28:41

Have been here (not so. As as this) once before and ambulance crew did ecg and heart etc was fine. Slightly elevated but I rekon this is comedown of overdoing g it

coldhandswarmheart88 Sat 11-Mar-17 19:29:23

So so frightening though, especially with nobody who you can confide in for reassurance when you're frightened

Northernlurker Sat 11-Mar-17 19:31:23

You need an ecg op. Nobody on here can tell you your heart rhythm will be ok overnight. Please go to a&e.

coldhandswarmheart88 Sat 11-Mar-17 19:45:12

I can't go to a&e that is not an option for me. I have to stay home & ease this myself- was just looking for any tips

Iamastonished Sat 11-Mar-17 19:47:41

"I can't go to a&e that is not an option for me."

Northernlurker Sat 11-Mar-17 20:18:52

Of course a and e is an option. You don't want yo go because you're concerned about the consequences. I'm guessing you are either a police officer or registered health care professional. You're right, your drug addiction will impact. However it can only impact if you are still alive. You may get through the night fine or you may have an arrhythmia and not wake up. Which is why you need help now.

Palomb Sat 11-Mar-17 20:20:26

Have you eaten? If you've been doing that much coke I'd eaten you've not been eating much. I used to find a KFC with full fat coke was the ultimate come down remedy.

SpunBodgeSquarepants Sat 11-Mar-17 20:27:03

OP don't fuck around when it comes to your heart. You might not wake up tomorrow morning.
When you say you did a lot on Thursday night, how much are we talking?

lougle Sat 11-Mar-17 20:39:26

Nobody can make you go, as you know. But nobody can tell you that you'll be ok, or tell you that it's safe to take propranolol, or wise not to take need someone who can assess your recent drug taking history, your current symptoms, your blood pressure, your 12-lead ECG, your electrolytes, and your liver and kidney function.

You won't shock anyone. Nobody will be surprised. I work in critical care and we see this sort of situation quite regularly. Nobody sets out to overdose. Nobody thinks 'I'm going to take so much coke, I'm going to scare myself stupid!' But nobody can predict how much is too much, or how strong their coke is. You made a mistake. Now you are ill. Hospitals are for ill people and it really doesn't matter how they got ill - if you need medical care, you need medical care. flowers

ImperialBlether Sat 11-Mar-17 20:43:06

What's your reason for not having medical care? Do you work at the hospital?

BillyButtfuck Sat 11-Mar-17 20:45:30

How much have you been issuing regularly and how much is loads on Thursday?

BillyButtfuck Sat 11-Mar-17 20:45:39

Using not issuing.

msgrinch Sat 11-Mar-17 20:45:56

Op. Ive been there and done that, one multiple occasions when i was a little younger. Drink alot of fluids, orange juice if possible, you need to try and get some food in you. Even if its picking the seeds out of some granary bread. You feel half of your symptoms as you're on a massive come down. So step by step as you're not stupid you know you need to sort your coke issue but you need to sort now out first.

You're going to go get a water or orange juice, some toast, run a warm bath and shower. Then in 20 mins you're going to think about how you feel. If you're still feeling like this then you're going to be calm enough to realise you may need medical help. But for now you're calm, you're in control.
