Chelsea Flower Show - help!

I've just landed a last minute invite to the Chelsea Flower Show! It's a work thing, so it's to go in some posh bit I suppose- although I've never been so don't really know how it all works. But..... what on earth should I wear?? And is it true about needing to wear flat shoes? Will we actually be walking around on grass (I know it's a flower show but have no idea what the set up is). Any ideas gratefully received. Thanks....

No, you won't be walking on grass. It's paved or has temporary walkways.

We went a few years ago (on the plebby public days) and all wore jeans.

Flat shoes would be wise though.

Hi Moll we are going tomorrow too with DH's work Went 2 years ago too with D Sis and we had a ball

I will be wearing maxi dress and flat silver gladiator sandals. You definitely need flat shoes - or low wedges at most. You will walk on paved paths but there is a lot of walking involved. Last time I went, I wore white linen trousers with cobalt loose fit tank. My feet were aching despite wearing flat shoes!

Most women wear daytime summer dresses/trousers rather than dressing up, iyswim.

Hope you have fun!

Thanks so much both. I think I'm going to wear a summery dress and some low wedges that I've got. I'm very excited- and the sun is still out!

I remember your old threads too - glad life us treating you well now.

Think the weather is supposed to break soon - if it's raining I think umbrellas are frowned on.... Also don't take a huge bag or you will end up thwacking people with it all the time...

Just to say- I've been to the Show and now I'm back! I really enjoyed it, but the most striking thing was how obvious it was that all women there had carefully researched their footwear: literally everyone, and I mean everyone, was sporting a wedge! (Myself included of course..... )

Glad you had fun, Moll

Wonder if I need to rethink my footwear for tomorrow then!

What about attire?

Well tonight was some sort of charity gala thing so it was quite dressy- there were a couple of women in what could only be described as ballgowns. Seriously. But I wore a sort of pale floaty dress- knee length with flutter sleeves and a self tie belt. Definitely a day dress- I'd wear it out to lunch on the weekend. And I felt comfortable in it- not too under-dressed and definitely not over-dressed. I would say that a nice summer dress that you feel relaxed in would be perfect. (But it did get a bit chilly when the sun went down, even tonight- def take a jacket of some kind.)

Moll well it is lovely to hear that you are well (and dating!) I followed your thread
last year but wasn't signed up t MN in those days.

I found your post here because I did a search for you as I'm about to link a thread in relationships over to your long running thread. I think the OP of this thread should read your thread. Not sure if you have time/strength to advise at all? (Totally understand if not).

Hope you are having fun at Chelsea Flower show today!
