I need a brown bag, not too big, not too small, just perfect (oh, and cheapish)

Bugdet around £30-£40. An every-day bag, that will look okay with jeans and work stuff. I'd seen something I liked in M&S but I went to get it today and they've sold out and it's not on their website either.

When I say 'work stuff' - it's not a very dressy office. More smart-casual.

I had the exact same dilemma - saw a bag in M&S, wanted it, but it had gone!

Anyway, I posted about it and some lovely MNer pointed me towards White Stuff where I bought

It's lighter than it looks on the website and a very handy size - big enough for essentials but not tempting to fill with rubbish.

That's quite nice, although I think I'd prefer something more like a tote shape.

MissWooWoo Tue 27-Oct-09 17:17:34

if only this were cheaper

do quite like it though shock

tan leather for £40 - I have it in green and I *love* it. Terrific quality for the price

LaurieScaryCake Tue 27-Oct-09 17:52:52

48 pounds

RustyBat Tue 27-Oct-09 17:56:34

Even if that bag on MissWooWoo's link were cheaper I don't think I could bring myself to buy something from a site as pretentious as that one:

"The contrasting material selection leaves the card elevated to a platform of exclusivity by the thick leather strap and chrome buckle fasteners."

MissWooWoo Tue 27-Oct-09 18:02:39

yes, what exactly does that mean Rustybat ... I'm guessing "it's just a fucking piece of cardboard people but glue on a bit of leather and a buckle and hey presto no one will know the difference"

RustyBat Tue 27-Oct-09 18:09:10

Think that's a fairly accurate translation!

KnottyLocks Tue 27-Oct-09 18:22:45

£176 for a paper bag? People buy these? shock

MissWooWoo Tue 27-Oct-09 18:24:50

on a more serious note, how about this

MaggieBruja Tue 27-Oct-09 18:25:11

That paper bag is shit!!!!!!!!!

come on!! serious emperor's clothes thing going on?!

Like the hobo bag, short handle though. You couldn't put your arm through I don't think.

MaggieBruja Tue 27-Oct-09 18:29:55

This is nice, and brown and very reasonable.

MaggieBruja Tue 27-Oct-09 18:31:50

and this one is brown and ncie for work/day

MissWooWoo Tue 27-Oct-09 18:33:43

or this?

overmydeadbody Tue 27-Oct-09 18:34:07

Is a budget of £30-£40 really considered cheapish for a bag?shock

I'd call that expensive, there muct be loads of options for that much money!

LaurieScaryCake Tue 27-Oct-09 19:39:48

Hobo handles easily long enough for over the shoulder, its how I wear mine smile

vacaloca Tue 27-Oct-09 19:50:59

Oh, sorry I've been out, will have a look at the links.

overbydeadbody - agree with you but it's probably cheapish for MN.

vacaloca Tue 27-Oct-09 20:01:27

I do like that Hobo one but it's just a bit too big. It's for my sister who goes to work by bike (moped) and needs to be able to fit it into the box at the back.

Do you have a TK Maxx near you. They have loads of bags - I bought one today.
