knitted would be good or thick cotton for with tights and vest plus long sleeve top under.

black or charcoal perfect or deep plum, etc.

must be fitted to under bust and probably scoop neck or similar. must not look maternity-esque

am 5'2" and petite

thanks lovely helpers

What's it for?

I was in Kew the other day and they had lots of pretty dresses ... any of these close?

And Gap has some new jersey and cotton dresses that are A-line. But they are for day-to-day wear, rather than so pretty, someone will stop you in the street and tell you you're pretty.

[Gap not on-line]

I thought this one looked like a less-wistful version of the velvet Toast dress of a couple of seasons ago:

bit more robust than Toast

But I'm not sure that's what you're aiming for.

I'm not a natural at this on-line shopping thing!

There's a lovely grey one in Next (sorry, can't find it on t'web!)
Was just looking at it yesterday. It's knitted (quite fine) with a flower made of the same material as kind of a corsage IYSWIM?

This looks very plain but could be dressed up. It looks an OK shape:

here

Warning: I haven't seen this in the shop Aand you can't see what it looks like in the picture!!! how useless is that!

Also, M & S Limited Collection can be a bit dodgy in the material and finish. Sometimes it's a bit yuk.

I know you're not interested in velvet but this is noce in the shop, it has silk in the velvet here but you'd never guess from the advert. So maybe the black dress is v. nice indeed.

I've seen that Next one and I quite like it but is it drapey. I need...wait for it...a certain stiffness to my A line.

at stipulations.

Thanks cherry, will look at next link.

Quite like that actually. Would have to wear sans belt as my short stature is down to small body so a belt is weird on me, unfortunately.

Do you think the top half is 'young' enough?

Is it the Next one you're talking about or the M & S one?

If it's the M & S one - you can't tell AT ALL from that photo!

Someone should really take their art director to task.

Your M&S one

You're right. Bad view!

Off to bed, now.

Hope you have more luck with the AM-Mners.

Thought I'd bump this, seeing that I wasn't much help!

Can't help sadly, but I'm on a mission for the same thing.

Bought this one in M&S today, it's nice, but not what I was really after as it's not A line.

M&S stripey

I'm going to revive my gripe about shops not catering to pear-shaped women - the current fashion for long tunics is great, but tunics that cling to tummy, bum, hips AND thighs isn't really flattering to anyone above a size 10 now, IS IT??

Annoyingly I've found the perfect dress, but it's in the children's section of H&M - so I've bought it for DD It's knitted, gorgeously A line (with slightly sticky-out skirt), in various nice colours, eg pink and grape stripe, turquoise and navy stripe - sigh...

Okay not long sleeve (3/4) and not the right colour but this one anything along the right lines?

From another thread but anything along the right lines?

Hard to find something with long sleeves actually.

LevitatingCopy - I know that H&M dress as DD1 has it and it is lovely!

Short sleeves again though but available in black

How about this - not quite what you asked for but the shape is good, no?

Oh I like the La Redoute one! Am going through their site at the moment - have found this one too, though it's a bit hard to see how A line it is

Another La Redoute one

I know, Stake, I'm after that Peacocks one too, let us know what it's like in real life won't you?

I have that wool Redoute one in Norkily's first link; I am 5'5 and it comes down almost to my knees. That model is a giantess.
It is also a tad shapeless.

i got the purple peacocks one and it's not half bad. i'm a 10 and all they had left was the 6-8, have to be a bit double jointed to get into it but once on it's a good fit and not bulky. it's thickish fabric but quite soft and drapey and not at all maternity (i had a black jumper in a very similar style last pg and couldn't wait to bin it by the end, this one isn't giving me flashbacks ) obviously being all plastic it'll prolly wear horribly but it's fine for a one-season wonder.

oh tis short too, might wear it over leggings but not tights.

thanks for suggestions and the 'bump' cherry
