Am sure it's been done to the death, but what do SAHM's/WFHM's wear if not jeans?

Am so sick of jeans, my idea of having a smarter day is the only skirt I own, with knee boots, but, even that's made out of denim.

Oh I don't iron unless it is do or die, so lovely linen type trousers are 100% out of the question, and I don't do anything even remotely sporty-ish type unless I am actually doing anything sporty-ish!

I have ideas of dresses over leggings etc, but everytime I try a combination on, it just doesn't feel right, and at 5ft 6 and a size 12/14 top, 14/16 bottom, I am a bit short and stumpy to look anything like what I want to look like in a dress and leggings combo!

I need help, damn it, I need MN! (And some new boobs/smaller tummy, but that's a different thread....)

But do you never get bored of jeans? I know they are so easy, and they go with anything and everything, but I am really sick of them.

We're moving house, spent some time yesterday going through my clothes, I have 15 pairs of jeans, of different colours/lengths. 15. 15 pairs of trousers that I am bored with.

It's not good.

Feel leggings and top combo is a bit like wedging a whale in a condom.

Today I am wearing wide leg woolen trousers, a black tee and a wrap grey cardigan and heels. I am a SAHM. I rarely wear jeans!

I generally wear knitted dresses with opaque tights and boots, and sometimes a long cardigan on top, as my house is quite cold.

I do wear jeans quite a bit, but I also wear skirts or dresses with tights and boots in the winter, or cords.

I work from home so live in Knitted dresses, jersey dresses, skirts with opaque tights and leggings and long tops.

Jeans are uncomfy to sit and MN work in.

Yes, I agree with Lizzy that jeans are uncomfy. Good for the park though.

I should be packing...

Have 14 kids coming for party on Friday...

Have driving lesson tonight for driving test in 2 weeks...

We are moving house/area/schools in 10 days...

And I'm sat here maudling over my jeans...

I feel some shopping coming on.

Mrs Badger I had completely forgotten about the Gap trousers, had a pair a couple of years ago, lived in them. It's about time Gap started online over here.

Knee length skirts are great, and don´t need a wash that often if you wear them with opaque tights (leg slimming!).

Anything longer than knee length can be hard to pull off imho

What do you wear with your jeans?

When my DCs were little I seemed to live in boyfriend jeans, converse & tees. Now mine are all at school, I have smartened up my look.

I wear lots of leggings/dresses/layered with tees outfits. But you have already said you aren't comfortable with that .....perhaps the fear of leggings is what is putting you off this look?? I can totally relate but once you get used to them they really aren't scary at all

Given you are classic pear (from your description of yourself) you need to ensure that your top half balances out your bottom half. So if you did want to go for a tunic or dress with a sleeve with some kind of fullness/puff to it, iyswim. Also tops with lots of detailing across the shoulders, neckline and chest. This will make you look broader across the shoulders and therefore balance out with your larger bottom half.

Make sure dresses/tunics are straight-ish or a very GENTLE A-line. Anything wider will only emphasise the differences.

Another favourite look of mine - which would be fab on you - is an oversized sweater (loads around at the moment - check out Zara and Top Shop) or knitted dress with skinny jeans and boots.

Hope this helps

Oh dear god, I am far too short for anything longer than knee length, but despite size of bum/hips, my legs aren't actually too bad (with opaque tights, have nasty stretch marks on back of knees somehow?!) so can go somewhere between mid-thigh and top of knees.

Thanks Tulpe, I am pleased with my top half - clothes wise. I seem to some how pull off most things so long as it's not tight tight. And always have at least two tops i.e. either long sleeved or vest tight top, with something (usually oversized/fitted round norks but baggy around waist/sleeves) over the top.

It is just dresses/bottoms I am fed up with.

Haven't ventured into TopShop since I was a size 8

Erm....... is there anything other than jeans? I love them! I have some sweater dresses to wear with tights, and a few over the knee skirts to wear with boots but jeans are the bread and butter of my wardrobe.

I do wear longer skirts at work.

My arse is too big to wear any other kind of trousers .

I wear skirts, don't even own a pair of jeans. I have one pair of trousers which I wear for Tai Chi and that's it. DD's school mates say I dress like a gypsy (but I don't wear earrings or carry heather as an accessory).

I have the same problem wearing jeans all the time....i don't own a skirt!! Have just bought a short dress/tunic and am considering the leggings route but need somemore research as the stuff i've tried on makes me look lumpy - jeans hide them

See Orm, this is my problem, if I get wide leg trousers, then my ankles look as wide as my arse, and that is not a good look! If I get straight leg, then I look like I have no ankles whatsoever because all you can see is arse. But if I get boot cut, they always tend to come up small on my hips, so I get a size 18 (which bugs me!) but they're too too too big on my waist, so I end up yanking them up all day, or end up with a belted bulge of too much fabric all clenched together

I think dresses/skirts are the way to go (along with some Gap canvas type things, cut like jeans, but not jeans!) but not sure I should be squeezing said arse into lycra?

Until recently it was jeans every day. I have just celebrated my birthday and realised that maybe I should "smarten" up a bit. I got wide of trousers but still wear my jeans most of the time!

They do make my my ankles look as wide as my bottom but I am in complete denial and decided it actually was making my bottom as skinny as my ankles!

Leggings! I don't know how anyone doesn't wear them? With long loose tops/dresses and a scruffy long cardi and pumps/boots/ugg type boots. I have 4 pairs of black leggings and wear them 6 times a week

Me...
Wide leg trousers with fitted top, cardi, necklace.
Skinny jeans and boots plus tunic/dress
Leggings plus dress/tunic/waistcoat/
'normal' jeans with vest/tee and cardi, plus jewellery.
Dress with opaqes,boots/flats,heels if lunching.
If I 'do' jeans then I always accessorize,ie scarf/chunky necklace,bracelet etc.
Perhaps vary jeans, such as skinny with tunic/boots,wider leg with fitted jacket and scarf, chunky knit another day,IFYSWIM.
