a waterproof coat that's above the knee, doesn't look like a quilt and doesn't make me look like I need a rucksack and walking boots?

I need a warm, waterproof, hooded coat that doesn't make me look like a twat. Is that too much to ask <frantic!! Have been looking for hours!>

MrsBadger Thu 08-Oct-09 21:31:12

yabu
we have been looking for years

try one of these and a hat

KristinaM Thu 08-Oct-09 21:35:37

mrsbadger is right

you can be any two of

warm, stylish, waterproof

but not all three sad

navyeyelasH Thu 08-Oct-09 21:37:24

Mrs Badger I'm 25!!!! My nan wears a coat like that wink although I do like the hat. But it will give me hat hair. There has to be better alternative. This is better but still quite grim. Is the back ruched?!

Seriously is it impossible then? Shall I just some berghaus 3 in 1 jobbie sad

MrsBadger Thu 08-Oct-09 21:41:25

if you have that kind of money go to AIgle

at least then you will be frumpy in a stylish Fr way

francaghostohollywood Thu 08-Oct-09 21:43:23

Have you looked into Carhartt? It used to be cool at my time (15 yrs ago hmm)

navyeyelasH Thu 08-Oct-09 21:45:06

I am actually poor but am desperate to find something - even if I have to save for 10 years grin

Ok so what coat is waterproof and stylish and non duvet like? Will check out AIgle and Carhartt.

Would a ski jacket be overkill?

Lilymaid Thu 08-Oct-09 21:48:09

Some North Face jackets are worth considering.

navyeyelasH Thu 08-Oct-09 21:48:35

how grim??

MrsBadger Thu 08-Oct-09 21:51:29

and it;s not waterproof either

navyeyelasH Thu 08-Oct-09 21:53:37

ok have looked at Aigle - how poncy is their site? Can't be arsed to figure out what collectiona coat may be in! Carhartt is too sporty. Thank you ladies for the tips, it seems I've hit upon some holy grail of outwear!

Lilymaid, to for northface link had a nosey but they are either too long, too short, too sausage like, too furry, to quilty or too anaoraky.

Humph!

francaghostohollywood Thu 08-Oct-09 21:55:43

Yes, the Carhartt website is really uninspiring, isn't it?
Can I also suggest a trip to Zara? Sometimes it has real gems (not all the time though) in terms of jacket.

MrsBadger Thu 08-Oct-09 21:57:23

Aigle coat

navyeyelasH Thu 08-Oct-09 22:02:10

ohh Mrsbadger that's a good one - but Im not keen on the fur it would be horrid in the rain and it looks like that's about the only thing you can't adjust / remove? Hmmm

francaghostohollywood I've tried Zara, they have some really nce lightweight ones but I need something a little more hardcore!

Why can't they just make the coats they make in autumn (I have a really nice one for light rain) but make them in waterproof material and add a hood - is that too much to ask?

navyeyelasH Thu 08-Oct-09 22:04:21

I really like this one in terms of colour and length still a little too "walking boots style" coat for me but I could cope.

But it's not waterproof is it!!!

smallorange Thu 08-Oct-09 22:05:35

Collar is detachable. Am very tempted ....

navyeyelasH Thu 08-Oct-09 22:09:00

small orange oh yes I see now!

Hmmmm I'm confused now - it ticks the boxes but I don't love it. Why don't I love it?

It looks like it came from River Island a little?

hottiebear Thu 08-Oct-09 22:09:34

I'm having exactly the same problem, it is so unbelievable that there is NOTHING!

I had an ok one from Zara a couple of years ago but it turned out it leaked at the shoulder seams which was bloody uncomfy so I'm looking for one with taped seams. I also had one by Lady Soul which wasn't bad but the hood was designed for frank sidebottom so if it was windy it blew down.

Why can't some cool designer team up with berghaus or something so we get the warmth and waterproofness but with something that is actually stylish, not grim with a bit of fake fur round the collar which seems to be what 'stylish' equates to in a practical coat.

I just googled 'warm waterproof stylish coat' and you know what the first page consisted of? Coats for bloody dogs.

smallorange Thu 08-Oct-09 22:10:16

No, no don't say that!

navyeyelasH Thu 08-Oct-09 22:12:17

What about this How would the toggle fair on a big chest do you think?

MrsBadger Thu 08-Oct-09 22:13:55

admit I'd like to see that Aigle one IRL first butu they are usually pretty shapely

(NB if you ever find yourself at Disneyland Paris there is an Aigle factory outlet at Marne-le-Vallee which is worth a squint)

princessmel Thu 08-Oct-09 22:14:05

Someone show her the Boden Urban and cloudspotter.... grin

Am to tired to link myself!

smallorange Thu 08-Oct-09 22:15:19

Oh I like that one too.

navyeyelasH Thu 08-Oct-09 22:15:45

hmm what are the arm vents all about? Is it quite long do you think?

MrsBadger Thu 08-Oct-09 22:17:07

oh not bad navy
bit Paddington, and would be bulky on a big chest but best so far I reckon
