DH and I are going to a wedding which is black tie but ladies are requested not to wear black.

I am 5'11, blonde hair, green eyes, size 14 on top and 16 on bottom.

I also have done my shape with the Trinny and Susannah book and am a column according to them. Broad shoulders and hips, small boobs and not much of a waist.

I had my colours done recently and am warm/soft and deep Colours that suit are teal/green/brown/pewter/coral amongst others

Budget probably £100 but could stretch to a bit more for something nice.

DH and I are actually going without DC and are staying over in hotel so would like to make an effort and look nice.

What are your best bits body-wise? Are you happy to have your legs on show? Arms out or covered? Figure hugging or loose dress?

This halter dress has the corals and browns you suit.

Pewter dress at Kalico. Great for showing off good legs.

I would go in a big black bag if I could as am really not comfortable with my body! However as I am not allowed to wear black I can't do that.

Lower half of my legs is Ok - calves, skinny ankles. Wouldn't willing show off knees though but maybe that would look frumpy so maybe full length is the way to go if it is black tie. Arms are Ok - bit bingo wingy but not too bad. Have a post DC tummy still although am desperately doing sit ups daily to try and reduce that.

I quite like this from coast but it is black. Also I know that a lot of the other wives will probably buy coast dresses so would like something from a different outlet if poss.

Have now managed to get pc working. French Connection dresses - i like the purple grecian but not sure about showing arms and legs iyswim.

Professor I couldn't open the link to the pewter waterfall dress but I loved both the Monsoon dresses and the halter neck dresses. Am not sure though if halter neck suits me as have broad shoulders and small boobs.

If you have a Debenhams near you go and have a browse at their designer diffusion lines Pierce 2 Fonda do lovely evening dresses and they might have something in your budget range.

Mithered I have broad shoulders and small boobs and I love halter necks but that's because I like my shoulders and think they make me look "fierce" (to borrow a term from ANTM sorry about that). I know a lot of 'style' advice tells broad shoulders NOT to wear halter necks.

I always forget about Debenhams but they do have some nice evening dresses.

I don't watch ANTM but I take it "fierce" is good?! I am also about to have my hair cut off into a mid neck bob so my shoulders will be fully exposed which I am not used to. Maybe I should be showing them off.

Just remembered about ASOS - off to have a look on there whilst DC watch a very educational programme on CBeebies

fierce is all about attitude and confidence, even tho I have broad shoulders and small boobs I like wearing halter necks because, for me, my upper back, neck and shoulders are a huge erogenous zone so when I show it off I feel very sexy and confident IYSWIM. If you do go halterneck remember to exfoliate and moisteriser your upper back and shoulders for a couple of weeks before.

I also think halter necks look great with a hairstyle that does show your neck so a mid length bob would look great.

However it's all about finding out what YOU feel sexy about. It doesn't even have to be an obvious part of your body, if you like your ears then wear an updo and fabulous earrings.

Oh and remember to have a good time because if you are having a good time you could be the uglest person in the room and you would still look fantastic.

I recently bought this dress for a formal wedding. It's purple so not sure it meets your colour requirements, but it's a very flattering wrap and the sleeves cover upper arms nicely. A little over your budget but I have worn it for two weddings in the last month and have been very pleased. Got it from John Lewis but the whole L K Bennett collection looks good.

Hi just to update everyone who contributed I went shopping today and bought this which has a halter neck tie thing so will break up my shoulders here

Just have to accessorise now but thanks for all the ideas. Was going for black shoes and maybe black wrap with silver jewellery. What do you think?
