What to wear for a job interview

I have a job interview this week. It is for a marketing position in a theatre.

CAn't decide between formal or going a bit more creativey.

I'm not sure the green top is so good with the suit, but I can't see the brown dress terribly well. I think I prefer the brown dress as it is, without the cardigan. Have you got a decent bag and coat to go with the dress? That could be the deciding factor for me.

not wishing to complicate things...but what does the blue dress look like without the cardigan? (love the cardi but just want to see dress without it!)

Oh dear! I like all those combinations but hoping they look better in RL.

The blue dress is sleeveless with deep armholes - I could put a long sleeve tee underneath

The brown dress fits - the sleeves are gathered at the cuffs so it does look a bit baggy - but it is the style, honest!

Right so with brown dress I would wear a cream wool overcoat with a black handbag.

Only other shirt I have that goes with the suit is a sleevless grey and red stripe wrap thing (nicer in rl than in description)

I will go and iron everything and have a think about it some more.

what is blue dress with black jacket like? then maybe a scarf or something to perk it up. i am not sure about the sleeves on that cardie. agree brown dress pic not all that clear. does it fit neatly, no good if habit-like.

and are you enormously tall or is that door from alice in wonderland?

I think with interviews you have to sort of dress to the maximum that you would in the role you are going for iyswim - ie if you worked in the job what would you wear for e.g. crunch pitch / presentation, etc?

It's not nearly as common as it used to be for people to wear suits at work - I find - and I think it's totally ok not to wear one to an interview. I actually really like the brown dress BUT I think the overall effect is too brownybrowny, can you lighten it in some way, you have a minuscule waist, what about a thin cream belt? And joools.

If you leave cream overcoat at reception (?) you will be left with brown dress and black bag, not sure this is wise.

right - will do pics of different shirt combo after baby is in bed.
I have coral jools that go with the brown dress - I was hoping the funky
orange tights would lift it enough. I have one of those wide belts but not sure how much I would look like a squeezed tube of poo in it.

i have to agree with VintageBrowny though, steak, you have to dress for absolute smartest occasion that will happen at work. If only so you prove you can scrub up ok!

not suggesting you don't for a moment scrub up wonderfully but you know what i mean!

steak dare i suggest you run something up for next week? i'm sure you've got some fabric that would make a fab top to wear with your suit....

Miamla - you may not suggest that - interview on Tuesday, this was supposed to be a quick decision on the clothes. I still haven't finished the presentation I have to do.

Yes I think shortish chunky Wilma Flintstone-type beads too. Anything long & dangly and tied in a knot with a wool dress can be a bit I-am-a-potter-in-my-spare-time - not that there is ANYTHING wrong with pottery and I like to throw a few myself but for interview purps, no.

I like the long sleeved dress with the belt...the blue dress is nice too, but I'm worried you may feel chilly.

Bloss your combo sounds lovely but I have none of those things of which you speak.

Neckline on both dresses is a cowl neck.

ishoos with shoos - I only have black heels or white heels or purple heels or gold heels. So nothing that would go with the brown tights I would have to wear with brown dress.

OK now I prefer the blue dress with the brown belt, it looks the smartest in those pics, with second choice brown dress with belt.

I wouldn't worry about chilliness - coat on the way there and presumably interview in heated room.

I still say no to the suit. I don't think it's sharp enough and I don't think the length of the skirt is quite right.

That is better than the green but you need a scarf or necklace or something to stop it looking quite so severe I think.
