Im really not sure how good leggings and tunics look on a lot of women

ok amazons and kate moss a likes exempt.

I saw a really smart " expensively elegant " woman in a ong cashmere type sweater and leggings at the gym and she just looked like she had forgotten a skirt - although all the items looks GREAT in theory.

then just now at posh swimming I saw about hthree women attempt it and if you are no REALLY thin you do look pregnant and the material just CLINGS to all the wrong bits.

I think slim trews better really. it's all a bit ubiquitous now...but easy for work etc, and if one is having a lumpen day

Yep.
I (mostly) agree with you there.

yes leggings/tunic only work on slim tall people. I really did think a teacher had forgotten her skirt the other day, I did a double take (v short tunic on not so great legs)

tunic must come to at least mid-thigh for it to be acceptable, imo.

Also think people assume tunics cover multitude of sins but in reality they still need good underwear beneath - otherwise rolls of flesh (no matter how small) are exposed wherever the fabric clings.

Agree with Cybil: slim fit trousers, skinny jeans both better options for those of us not blessed with gorgeous thighs

Hate hate hate tunics for me they are an excuse to let it all hang out and eat too much!Dresses and footless tights yes

I think leggings should be tucked into boots to carry off a tunic top. Can't wait for it to get colder so I can start wearing my boots!

I am fairly sure that leggings and tunics don't look too hot on most women

I am very tall and slim, so can get away with it- but I look awful in dresses/skirts. Haven't worn a dress since my wedding day 15 yrs ago and that was under sufferance.

I went out in leggings and tunic the other day - and it did occur to me that I looked ... round.

In my head, i was all bohemian and cool. But the reality, I fear, was something else entirely.

I am seriously considering buying boots, a tunic and leggings. I am tall but no longer thin. I can't think what else to buy and look old fashioned in all my skirts.

I totally agree. I have not seen anybody over the age of 14 (or over size 8) appearing anything other than dreadful in this look.

i think it is ok if the top or the bottom has some structure. so i will wear cord dress with leggings, or jeggings with that bloody wallis dress which i have got to get some wear out of. and a hoody or bolero and boots.

can't wear jersey top to bottom, is like a giant babygo.

I keep seeing people with leggings and short tops... leggings that are a bit see-through too. Looks like they went out with top half of clothing missing.

DH informed me the other day that smock tops/baggy tunics make me look pregnant.Bless him,he did redeem himself by explaining that it was because I am so slim and should stick to fitted clothing instead.I have de-smocked my wardrobe now.

After spending many months declaring to anyone who would listen that leggings look shit, I finally purchased a pair to wear with my new Fly boots and dresses or tunics.

I am size 6-8 and 5ft 5 BUT I am 11 weeks pregnant and have only a couple of weeks of being able to wear them without looking pregnant left.

Also, why do people not check that their leggings are actually thick enough that you can't see through them?

The "incomplete" look is not helped by the fact that a lot of them are wearing footless tights not leggings

I too am anti-leggings.

They're only for size 10 max, and if you remember them in a previous incarnation you shouldn't be wearing them.

The final nail in the coffin will be when women in their 50s are trolling around the supermarket in them (particularly attractive with a rugby shirt over the top) - we're getting dangerously close to that stage now I fear.

Short tops are very wrong, no matter how slim you are.

Leggings can look nice, but a lot depends on the dress/tunic. Agree that it has to be at least half way down the thighs. Rugby shirt not a good look.

I wear them - am a size 12, but reasonably slim legs.

Have to say I don't think it is an age thing - have seen lots of teenagers looking awful in leggings. It's all about the top/legging combination.

Boots do help balance the whole thing out. I also think that leggings which end mid-calf are a whole lot more flattering than the full length ones.

I just can't get with jeggings, but I salute those of you who have taken the plunge.
