Im really not sure how good leggings and tunics look on a lot of women

ok amazons and kate moss a likes exempt.

I saw a really smart " expensively elegant " woman in a ong cashmere type sweater and leggings at the gym and she just looked like she had forgotten a skirt - although all the items looks GREAT in theory.

then just now at posh swimming I saw about hthree women attempt it and if you are no REALLY thin you do look pregnant and the material just CLINGS to all the wrong bits.

I think slim trews better really. it's all a bit ubiquitous now...but easy for work etc, and if one is having a lumpen day

Catzee Fri 25-Sep-09 19:35:07

I (mostly) agree with you there.

ramonaquimby Fri 25-Sep-09 19:38:42

yes leggings/tunic only work on slim tall people. I really did think a teacher had forgotten her skirt the other day, I did a double take (v short tunic on not so great legs)

tunic must come to at least mid-thigh for it to be acceptable, imo.

Also think people assume tunics cover multitude of sins but in reality they still need good underwear beneath - otherwise rolls of flesh (no matter how small) are exposed wherever the fabric clings.

Agree with Cybil: slim fit trousers, skinny jeans both better options for those of us not blessed with gorgeous thighs

Hate hate hate tunics for me they are an excuse to let it all hang out and eat too much!Dresses and footless tights yes

I think leggings should be tucked into boots to carry off a tunic top. Can't wait for it to get colder so I can start wearing my boots!

dogonpoints Fri 25-Sep-09 21:18:33

I am fairly sure that leggings and tunics don't look too hot on most women

deaddei Fri 25-Sep-09 21:21:16

I am very tall and slim, so can get away with it- but I look awful in dresses/skirts. Haven't worn a dress since my wedding day 15 yrs ago and that was under sufferance.

cherryblossoms Fri 25-Sep-09 21:57:21

I went out in leggings and tunic the other day - and it did occur to me that I looked ... round. sad

In my head, i was all bohemian and cool. But the reality, I fear, was something else entirely.

MillyR Fri 25-Sep-09 22:00:44

I am seriously considering buying boots, a tunic and leggings. I am tall but no longer thin. I can't think what else to buy and look old fashioned in all my skirts.

janeite Fri 25-Sep-09 22:04:06

I totally agree. I have not seen anybody over the age of 14 (or over size 8) appearing anything other than dreadful in this look.

fishie Fri 25-Sep-09 22:05:30

i think it is ok if the top or the bottom has some structure. so i will wear cord dress with leggings, or jeggings with that bloody wallis dress which i have got to get some wear out of. and a hoody or bolero and boots.

can't wear jersey top to bottom, is like a giant babygo.

themoon66 Fri 25-Sep-09 22:08:38

I keep seeing people with leggings and short tops... leggings that are a bit see-through too. Looks like they went out with top half of clothing missing.

FuriousGeorge Fri 25-Sep-09 22:18:24

DH informed me the other day that smock tops/baggy tunics make me look pregnant.hmmBless him,he did redeem himself by explaining that it was because I am so slim and should stick to fitted clothing instead.I have de-smocked my wardrobe now.

ThePhantomPlopper Fri 25-Sep-09 22:26:10

After spending many months declaring to anyone who would listen that leggings look shit, I finally purchased a pair to wear with my new Fly boots and dresses or tunics.

I am size 6-8 and 5ft 5 BUT I am 11 weeks pregnant and have only a couple of weeks of being able to wear them without looking pregnant left.

CNyle Sat 26-Sep-09 12:29:58

yes I have never seen these folk in short tops but apprently they look odd!

The jeggings I got in new look are THicker and less pj ish

donnie Sat 26-Sep-09 12:33:55

LEGGINGS ARE UTTERLY WITHOUT MERCY oops, sorry for caps. Most women look awful in them. I include myself in that btw.

CNyle Sat 26-Sep-09 12:36:45

I think its a loose tunic that is the issue - it just hangs off the wrong bits

adn i dont like htose polyster dresses peopel wear - reminds me of naff work uniform

NorbertDentressangle Sat 26-Sep-09 12:46:10

Also, why do people not check that their leggings are actually thick enough that you can't see through them?

The "incomplete" look is not helped by the fact that a lot of them are wearing footless tights not leggings

Lonicera Sat 26-Sep-09 12:47:52

I agree with Donnie

OurLadyOfPerpetualSupper Sat 26-Sep-09 12:55:31

I too am anti-leggings.

They're only for size 10 max, and if you remember them in a previous incarnation you shouldn't be wearing them.

The final nail in the coffin will be when women in their 50s are trolling around the supermarket in them (particularly attractive with a rugby shirt over the top) - we're getting dangerously close to that stage now I fear.

SixtyFootDoll Sat 26-Sep-09 13:02:19

I do not look particularly great in my leggings/ tunic combo
I am 5'6" and siae 12
But I really like wearing them and tbh couldnt care less what anyonr elsse thinks.

CNyle Sat 26-Sep-09 13:18:15

oh no i like them - look fine on me
am just not sure about the whole look on anyone over 25/30

noddyholder Sat 26-Sep-09 13:26:15

Jeggings or footless tights but not leggings. If you need to put a tunic over them you are too fat!Me included.
