Help - I need a nice smart warm coat for the winter, pref in a bright colour. Am size 14/16 with humongous norks so not double-breasted. I love [http://www.marksandspencer.com/gp/product/B002EYYN1W/sr=1-2/qid=1253006646/ref=sr12/275-9494754-1 239305?ie=UTF8&node=&m=A2BO0OYVBKIQJM&keywords=&mnSBrand=core&size=9&rh=n%3A43109030%2Cp%5F4%3APerfe ct&page=1 this one] but they only have it in black (boring) and red (doesn't suit me). Ideally I would like a blue, green or purple coat to cheer me up on wet grey days. Around the £100 mark if poss. Anyone seen anything likely?

Aggh this one I meant!

Can't help but hoping some fashion gurus will point me in right direction too. I need something smartish but warm and showerproof also

hotcrossbunny Tue 15-Sep-09 10:39:19

Am watching too!

LadyGlencoraPalliser Tue 15-Sep-09 10:49:33

Now there is a question. How many coats does a girl need?
I would like
One smart coat as below.
One warmish, waterproof kneelength with hood (otherwise known as MN holy grail).
One warm hoodie or jacket for dry days.

I have got
The Boden (not very) showerproof mac from two years ago that all the buttons came off. Also not long enough so your legs get wet.

A green tweed coat that is four years old and worn to shreds.

And about a dozen old coats that I know I will never wear again but are stashed in the back of the understairs cupboard for emergency use only.
I will throw them out this year.

Conveniently, red does suit me, so you may have solved my winter coat problems before I had given them any consideration myself...

LadyGlencoraPalliser Tue 15-Sep-09 10:54:22

I like it, Ruby!

Ruby I like it, but I'm not convinced that it wont make me look like I've got one enormous nork... But it looks warm and would keep my neck cosy too...

I like the M & S coat a lot, but again would rather a more extensive colour selection. The price is fab thoughsmile

AvadaKedavra Tue 15-Sep-09 11:33:19

this?

AvadaKedavra Tue 15-Sep-09 11:36:00

this is a bit more than your budget but very lovely

or this?

LadyGlencoraPalliser Tue 15-Sep-09 11:39:19

Love the Monsoon coat.
The blue Debenhams one is nice though and I could then afford a parka/waterproof as well.

AvadaKedavra Tue 15-Sep-09 11:45:56

Not sure how warm this would be but it's lush.

black and white check

Am bored, sorry grin

AvadaKedavra Tue 15-Sep-09 11:48:49

some nice stuff on boohoo

AvadaKedavra Tue 15-Sep-09 11:53:00

plum, black or royal blue colourways

hotcrossbunny Tue 15-Sep-09 12:03:41

Love the last one in the plum! And the White Stuff coat is gorgeous, but agree it might not be hugely warm.

The Monsoon one is beautifulsmile

LadyGlencoraPalliser Tue 15-Sep-09 12:20:00

I like the last one in blue. But is it a bit short? Monsoon still my fave, but £££. Could have the blue one and a parka for the same price which might be more practical.
What do people think? One expensive coat or two cheaper ones?

AvadaKedavra Tue 15-Sep-09 12:23:31

I think you need differnt coats for different days.

I have a great waterproof jacket (short) but it's no good for colder days, a padded waterproof ski jacket from Lands End but it's only ok with jeans/trainers, a short denim jacket for over pretty flowery summer dresses, and am wanting a smarter wool coat for non jeans and trainers days!

One coat is simply not going to do.

LadyGlencoraPalliser Tue 15-Sep-09 12:28:45

Yes, you are right. What I want to do is throw out all my old coats and start again rather than having a huge pile of old things that I don't like, but end up wearing as emergency garments.

AvadaKedavra Tue 15-Sep-09 12:34:04

I know the feeling, I have time off this week and am planning to gut my wardrobe as it's getting ridiculous.

soopermum1 Tue 15-Sep-09 12:37:56

LadyG, I tried on that M&S coat in the link. I didn't like th shoulders, they were a little puffy. I ended up getting a very similar one from Debenhams, much more flattering. Am very large norked

smart

shopalot Tue 15-Sep-09 14:34:25

I saw the Monsoon one in the store last week and it isn't lined. Not warm enough for me.

LadyGlencoraPalliser Tue 15-Sep-09 14:43:13

I just showed all the links to DH. He hates the Monsoon one, says it looks like any old lady coat. Doesn't like any of the funnelnecked ones and thinks the blue Debenhams one is too short!
So back to the drawing board - thanks DH!

NOT LINED, Shopalot! At that price!
