I know there is a lot of debate about Boden on here. What about Joules?
Good or bad?

cazzybabs Tue 01-Sep-09 17:11:52

i love joules

IOnlyReadtheDailyMailinCafes Tue 01-Sep-09 17:15:00

I buy quite a lot for dd from joules, not so much for myself.

greygirl Tue 01-Sep-09 17:21:11

is it boden in the country?

joliejolie Tue 01-Sep-09 17:25:01

I sometimes like Joules, but it does seem very country. We live in the country, so that's okay, but I don't like to look like everyone else.

I don't (and will never) wear a gillet, but the kids have them.

IOnlyReadtheDailyMailinCafes Tue 01-Sep-09 17:31:09

Yes everyone wears it here which is why I dont wear it so much but dd has some lovely bits.

greygirl Tue 01-Sep-09 18:00:05

i wondered why it doesn't get the derision boden does, when it is the same stripes/yummy mummy kind of thing. i am a little put off by the logos, but the dresses seem nice.

IOnlyReadtheDailyMailinCafes Tue 01-Sep-09 18:01:58

Yes I dont buy anything with an obvious logo, and that would go for any brand not just joules. DD also likes boden though,

MaggieLeo Tue 01-Sep-09 18:04:26

The stuff looks a similar style and quality and price to boden, but it's not talked about so ......... ? does that mean anything!?

ADifferentMe Tue 01-Sep-09 18:08:17

I think maybe the stuff looks better in the shops - found three branches in Cornwall last week (sheltering from the rain wink) and was impressed. Detest the logos though.

Rindercella Tue 01-Sep-09 18:11:34

I like their wellies smile

Not so keen on the fleeces, gilets, etc. A little too girly in the country for me.

IOnlyReadtheDailyMailinCafes Tue 01-Sep-09 18:14:50

DD has some very cute joules wellies that are about to be too small, she is gutted. She has a fleece and a gillet but she is a girly in the country.

MaggieLeo Tue 01-Sep-09 18:18:03

The link has disappeared from mumsnet now that i want to have a look at their autumn stuff.

southeastastra Tue 01-Sep-09 18:19:42

always seems very nautical to me grin

mimsum Tue 01-Sep-09 18:21:00

the colours are quite often slightly off iykwim? and I loathe all those revolting logos - there's one mum at school who wears lots of Joules (and also lots of Boden) but she's very 'County', which always seems a bit odd in an inner city playground grin

browneyedlou Tue 01-Sep-09 18:26:09

I went to the Glendale show yesterday in Northumerland and every other woman had jeans, Dubarry boots and a joules top and gilet Was starting to look a bit like a uniform Why would you want to look the same as everyone else?

MaggieLeo Tue 01-Sep-09 18:28:22

just had a look, there's not much there. nice or otherwise.

although my son and i would cut a dash in this at the school gates

IOnlyReadtheDailyMailinCafes Tue 01-Sep-09 18:29:40

Whenever we go to a country show or something like point to point everyone is in Joules, I also dont get why you would want to look like everyone else.

spiderinthebath Tue 01-Sep-09 19:28:51

Ditto love wellies and a few bits for the kids minus logos but there are a lot of mums looking very samey round here!

joliejolie Tue 01-Sep-09 20:42:15

Joules is what Boden was 10 years ago.
Boden used to do more fleeces and country things and now they are trying to be more stylish.

Does anyone remember the lamby fleeces?

DunderMifflin Tue 01-Sep-09 20:53:15

MaggieLeo - grin!!

tulpe Tue 01-Sep-09 21:00:00

I remember Boden's lamby fleeces. I never had one but my kids did. I loved them for the boys but cannot imagine having worn one myself

I think the Joules logo puts me off in a big way (not specifically theirs - anything with a logo on is pretty much a no-no for me). They had a lovely chic navy & white cardigan - very faux Chanel - in the summer. And then a bloody great "Joules" written across the back of it....why hmm ???

Maggieleo - the skirt on that link is fine. It is just everything else it is mixed with that looks bloody awful! It is very "pony set". (DISCLAIMER: several of my friends are horsey people too but do not dress like this so I do know that an alternative exists!!)

sorky Tue 01-Sep-09 21:00:52

It all looks incredibly dull to me

cazzybabs Tue 01-Sep-09 21:21:06

well having said I love it..I do agreee that some of their stuff is a bit rank...they had some blazers which were very ryan airesquse and some of their logs - no thanks!!!! and sometimes they do a boden and have very odd prints togther..

however I do have a gillet (it is cold in my house) and some welly like their stuff too becuse it is bright and pink and it lasts and washes well

MaggieLeo Tue 01-Sep-09 21:27:59

You're right. I had to have a look back, the skirt, in complete isolation is OK. The combo of yellow, red and royal blue, with a silk tie to boot, is a little noddy on a pony alright.
