What makes a glamour puss?

I would like to be sexy... ?

What are your top beauty tips? I am rapidly losing weight but still overweight, clothes are okay. MN haircut. Pluck my eyebrows but am looking into wax or threading tomorrow. I dont paint nails because I fear they will always chip but I do have a lovely gold polish, should I take the plunge? I want to be glamorous, direct me!

What does "ok" mean with clothes?

Decent underwear is a must

well... ok sometimes crap sometimes good. I badly need some new bras. I have large breasts and very ill fitting bras so I am going bra shopping Saturday. Would have liked to have gone to a Bravissimo but we dont have one - was thinking of a designer outlet village near me? Otherwise its going to be high street/Debenhams/Sainsburys. My pants are just plain black cotton they are ok.

I have only 1 pair of trousers that I wear a lot in this weather, 3/4 length black jeans, they really need replacing but I havent been able to find anything good. I have 3/4 combat trousers but not really any tops to match them to. Leggings, skirts over the top, tops. One pair of jeans that certainly fit me well when it was cooler but I'm losing a lot of weight so likely wont in autumn. Tops... they are so so.

Actually my wardrobe needs a lot of work but I have next to no money

But I am determined to be gorgeous!

Debenhams are good for bras. Combats are not sexy though - get rid.

I am far from being a glamour puss, but if your nail varnish is decent (and that doesn't mean expensive) it won't chip if you use a top coat and expect to redo it fairly regularly. Try it - what's the worst that can happen? It can always be removed. Gold nail varnish sounds very glamorous - do you want glamour, or sophistication?

hmm well I think I want a dash of glamour with a healthy dollop of class, sprinkle of sexy...

I really like gold nail polish, which is why I bought it but I've not used it! I will do it tonight!

I know the combats are not sexy actually they are not really combats I am struggling to explain they are khaki, 3/4 length, softish texture with lots of pockets? Does that matter? Anyway I wasnt counting them in my sexy clothes I was detailing my very skint wardrobe

I would focus first of all on the bras, can you order some online from Bravissimo? once you're all hoiked up, your clothes (and self confidence) will completely change.

High heels also good for glamourpussiness. Wedges if stilettos are scary

and some pull-in underwear of the spanx type variety, but as cheap as you can geet if you're still losing weight, it'll still make a difference.

Any clothes you buy from there on will look so much better as you'll be walking taller

oh, and the small cheap things like giving yourself a pedicure, keeping everything shaved and tidy, clothes ironed and well tended for, styled hair, well matched accessories etc

wish i could follow my own advice sometimes

Does that help? I thought it was great advice!

I have literally no idea what my bra size is so think I need to try it on and my credit card is not in functioning order so require paying cash. So really need to shop in person or paypal it. I never wear heels because me and DH are the exact same height. I do want some sometimes though.

I think my hair is actually alright. It goes too flat sometimes but is usually long, loosely curly, and of course the MN cut!

for real glamourpussiness, i think you should get high heels, regardless of DH's height. Think Nicole Kidman and Katie whatsername....

DH may find it very glam

right, off to give myself a pedicure now....

Definitely Debenhams rather than outlet village or Sainsbury's for bra (if those are the only choices). Are there any other dept stores (House of Fraser?). Once you know your size, Debenhams do ok cheap bras for bigger sizes (not as good as Freya/Fantasie/Panache/other brands Bravissimo do but ok if you're on a budget).

Take the plunge with the polish. It can always come off again. If you're worried about chipping, go for pale/nude colours. A pale pink looks nice and polished.

A bit of a heel is glamorous. Dresses/skirts can feel a bit more glamorous than trousers (but not always - depends how much you like your legs).

Make up? Do you wear any? Always adds a bit of glamour. Doesn't need to be loads. Focus on one thing like eyes or lips. A bit of shadow, liner and loads of mascara will make you feel more glam. Or some nice lippy.

How about perfume?

You don't need to spend loads. Often it's about a frame of mind.

Out of interest, why do you fancy a change now?

It isnt a terribly recent change actually... I've been losing weight for a long time and gradually putting more effort into how I look. I used to look rather nice and then really let myself go and then about New Years started to reign it in again. But just this last couple of weeks I've been feeling frumpier again ironically I think because of weight loss, my bra is saggy on me and I dont have enough clothes to wear but not a lot of money to replace them with. I do wear makeup. I am just recovering from swine flu and stopped plucking my brows while I was sick now they are all overgrown and I cant face the marathon plucking session I will have to get them tidy again.
