Oh dear - is this the beginning of the end?

It is really lovely - just a plain jumper in a silk/cotton/cashmere mix - but I've always seen Hobbs as 'middle aged and middle class'. DD1 said 'well you are, aren't you?'

God I'm not rich. Was in the sale and dp had just bought new running shoes, so was justified!

Doubt it's online as it was in the sale. Tis just a black jumper but lovely and soft.

I've always liked looking in a Hobbs window. I bought a winter coat in the sale once. Var pricey. So pricey, in fact, I keep thinking it must all be overpriced.

More of a classic sexy librarian look. Although I suppose that is very similar to middle aged and middle class.

I trield some really cute shoes on too but even the size 3 were absolutely gigantic on me and they didn't go any smaller - is that normal with their shoes?

Wouldn't know. I have a family of large-footed females. A 3 wouldn't cover our toes

DD1 is gigantic of foot but I have the opposite problem. Am a 4, so not freakishly small - but those shoes were HUGE.

Any Hobbs shoe-fans here to tell us? They had some gorgeous boots.

I bought a pair of jeans in Hobbs once for about £70

They were a size 12 and so was I and they fit in the shop. Then after wearing them a couple of times they started to slip down and I had to wear them with a belt as they literally slipped right off.

They were handy when pregnant as they still fit when I was overdue In fact that was the only time they fit me.

I'm a size 14 now and they are TOO BIG!!

Moral of the story? If you are going to spend £70 on jeans, don't buy them in Hobbs.

My winter coat was a size 14. Very neat across the chest but then I do have a broad back.

Even so. I don't want to hear any more stories about how vastly roomy their clothes are, thank you.

Well the jumper I bought was a 12 and I am a 12 and it is a perfect fit - it's just the shoes that were vastly roomy.

I had that problem with jeans in Next (why oh why did I buy anything from there?) - they fit me in the shop and have been too big ever since. However, they were not 70 pounds!

Agree, tell everyone your fabulous new jumper is from Stella McCartney or similar Or watch their faces change from admiring to deeply jealous that you may be the only woman ever to find anything worth the price tag!

Having said that........I have an evening dress from there, a wrap and a pair of lovely suede peep-toe shoes (which were a little bigger than a regular 39, iirc). They were all expensive but classic so cost per wear has made them good value. I also have boots from Hobbs but they are true to size THey are gorgeous - DH treated me for my birthday 4 years ago and they are still in great shape. Justifies the £199 price tag.........perhaps

The window display often draws me in but they somehow manage to get most of the proportions wrong - skirts & dresses often slightly too long so frumpy instead of stylish etc.

i've got a lovely pair of black suede hobbs boots which i have worn precisely once. because they are too small my feet got bigger during pg and never went back.

I bought a few things at the Hobbs outlet at Gunwharf Quays last year and find I wear them a lot, but not all at the same time!

Agree with the sexy librarian comment - you have to be careful about looking frumpy but the quality is great.

I liked Hobbs in the nineties, they did these lovely suede mary jane style shoes, I used to wear them with long dresses - I was a teenager then, had a penchant for dungaree dresses, rofl. I also liked Jigsaw in those days - neither shop was as expensive iirc.

Agree re everything being v long. They had a lovely skirt in (not in sale so I didn't dare look how much) but it would have buried me.

I had a v long conversation with the shop assistant about boots whilst paying for the top - re cost pair wear etc. But still couldn't justify it. Perhaps I should drop hints to dp?
