Hat virgin seeks wedding hat help! Come look at my outfit, what do you think I should get?

I'm going to a wedding in a couple of weeks.

I'll be wearing this dress with matching handbag and 50s style cream heels (Here's another version of the same dress for when that ebay listing runs out)

I've never got round to getting a hat for previous weddings - having a matching handbag this time feels majorly grown up! (I'm 34 )

But, this time I'd like to get hat or a fascinator thingy. I'm a bit of a hat virgin though - I have no idea what to go for, or where to go to get it - what kind of hat do you think would suit? Or maybe an interesting / slightly alternative fascinator thing?

In case it helps, I'm a size 14/16, with long blondish hair. The wedding crowd are fairly alternative, so the hat doesn't necessarily need to be too straight-laced / formal.

I'd really appreciate any advice!

TIA

i think it might all hang on the accessories

shoes colour
bag colour etc

something of this 'facinator' ilk

great advice on hat for face shape here

I would go for something in a neutral straw (most liekyl to get worn again) and a handbag ditto

Thanks custardo and MrsBadger some good food for thought there

I have a handbag in the same material as the dress. My shoes are cream. I was going either cream or shades of pink - up to shocking pink even. I hadn't thought of straw, that would go too.

I do fancy trying some hats on though - apart from Accessorise, where would you actually go for hats?

Cream is a very flattering colour for hats - goes with virtually everything. The classic wide-ish brimmed, low crown hat suits virtually every face and body shape.

Alternatively you could try a little pink pillbox hat and veil.

Accessorize is a good start but dept stores eg Debenhams / JL / House of Fraser are usually a better bet, and there's less chance of seeing someone else in the same one

If you have an independent one even better as they give good advice

a pillbox could look really cool though, esp on long hair
