Teeth whitening...costs?

Just been quoted £480 for top and bottom at my dentist ( private only.)

They make trays/gum shields for your mouth, then you use the bleach at home for as long as you need until you get the colour you want.

anyone tried this?

My dentist charges slightly more than that for the at home version about about £650 to do it in the surgery. Have an appointment next month and will discuss it then.

Am very interested as it would help my confidence no end. But I read that they can only lighten the colour you have rather than give you a totally different colour IYSWIM.

Eyeballs- I think a lighter version of your own colour will look more natural- whiter than white looks false.

what's the procedure?

when you go the first time, do they do an impression of your teeth, then do you have to go back for the trays once they are made? Or do you get the trays etc all on the one day?

I just had a quick chat today with the dentist and didn't discuss this kind of time scale.

I paid £250 for mine. Silicone moulds to wear at night and loads of bleach to squidge into them. The impressions were done within about ten minutes then I went back a week or so later to have the moulds fitted and checked and be shown what to do.

Actually I must do them again, it's been a while...

Does any of the bleach escape? I have a "gut" health issue and could not cope if I swallowed any peroxide.
My dentist says not, but just want to check.

Can I join a bit late?? Mine were £300 ish and worth every penny. Lots of vomitting during 3 pregs had taken it's toll IYKWIM!! You have to get the hang of putting right amount of bleach into the trays so not too much goes on your gums. My teeth were sensitive if I did it 2 nights running but fine if did it every 3 nights instead. dh thought my voice with trays in was rather amusing!!

Get the colgate strips set off ebay, worked a treat and only £20! done mine a year and half ago and people still comment how white my teeth are!

I don't fancy the strips- heard bad stuff, such as can be too strong or not strong enough, and my teeth aren't straight, so I don't think they would lie right.

If you have any crowns or veneers you have to have them redone to match your new whiter teeth- they won't bleach like normal teeth. ( i have one tooth that was chipped and is veneered and the dentist said have it redone after whitening.)

Second the whitening strips - for £25 they were an absolute bargi, and worked really well - perhaps not as good as £500 dentistry, but for £25 you really cant loose?

My daughter did the cogate teeth whitening - £30 off the internet somewhere, looks fantastic and it's been a while. she just kept it on for half an hour each evening. i am scared of trying anything as teeth incredibly sensitive, so will watch this thread...
