Ones that were passed on to me when I was a teenager: My aunt swears by using Nivea cream to remove eye make-up. She says it prevents wrinkles. My mum never ever uses moisturiser ('the skin can look after itself'), and still looks fabulous at 71 years old. I like rinsing my hair with cold water to make it shine. What's your favourite tip? And, can you suggest one single thing I can do to make me feel more glamourous when I leave the house in the morning? I am very busy lazy so don't blow-dry my hair and don't bother with make-up while I am on maternity leave.

  • Never use soap on your face
  • Wash face in cold water splash approx 20 times and pat skin dry - moisturise straight away
  • As soon as you step out the shower slap body lotion on
  • Drink 6 - 8 glasses of water throughout the day
  • Walk and cycle regularly
  • stretching excercises first thing in the morning
  • No carbs after 6.00.
  • Clarins beauty flash balm to give an instant glow
  • Get a good nights sleep.

Smile and be confident. No one will care if you have black teeth and acne.

The usual drink lots of water (is amazing how much of a difference this makes)

Never brush hair (always use wide-toothed comb and always be gentle)

Keep your nails short and painted a dark/cherry red colour (always looks good and very easy and cheap)

Always use blusher. Even if this is the only makeup you wear, glowing skin goes a long way to being beautiful

Beverley hills toothpaste is an excellent tooth whitener.
Flexitol on feet then feet in plastic bags for half an hour is as good as a spa pedicure.
Vaseline is a good lip balm. Can also be used (sparingly) under foundation/tinted moisturiser in the same way as beauty flash balm.

Dye your eyelashes - really makes a difference. I'm super lazy with make up too and I've never found a mascara that doesnt make me look tired, but dyeing my lashes and sometimes my eyebrows too, helps me look much more awake even without sleep. Did it a few days before giving birth to dd and you can see pics on my profile directly after she was born so you can guage its effects yourself!

Stay out of the sun/use sunscreen.
I have discovered Origins Youthtopia Cream makes me look human without any makeup - not sure what it is but I look better after I've put it on.

Thanks everyone! I like that most tips on here are really simple - have been thinking about having my eyelashes dyed. I did it once before I got married. How long does it last?

Sweet almond oil. You can sometimes get it relatively cheap from Holland and Barrett, and it can be used for the following:

  • put on wet skin straight after shower for when you can't be arsed to moisturise properly
  • warm and massage into wet hair, then wrap hair in warm towel and leave on for as long as can be bothered, then wash out with shampoo for intensive hair treatment
  • massage into cuticles to help keep them small and to feed nails
  • brilliant eye make up remover.

It is a wonder.

Also, if you have bags under your eyes/look very tired, put two teaspoons in the freezer, and then put over your eyes to reduce puffiness. Was a brilliant remedy back in the day when I was frequently very hungover.

Put a flannel in very hot water, wring it out and lay it on your face for 10 secs or so, then massage your face with the flannel as you take it off. You will glow.

Always pluck your eyebrows and groom them, I use powder to define them more and brow gel. Itreally does frame the face.

Blusher, cream only. Powdery blush sticks to the hairs on your cheeks and looks ageing, however the right cream blush (it doesn't have to be expensive, I really like Tesco) applied on the plump bits of your cheeks really makes you look healthy.

I have very good skin and don't need to wear makeup on a daily basis. Wasn't trying to get good skin it just seems to be the way I live my life which is good . I drink just water really (no tea, coffee etc), use moisturiser only if my skin is dry which is not often, I only wear makeup about once a week or so, don't use any lotions or potions on my skin nor do I use soap just water.

I think if your hair is styled you look good pretty much whatever so I would put the effort into making that look good in the morning then just put on some mascara and gloss.
