Dress for a wedding when 12 weeks pregnant (am 9 weeks now and showing already!)

I thought I would be able to wear a dress I already have but everything I own is too tight. I have put on half a stone already (on my bum and thighs I think!) with this pregnancy and have got a bump already.

Added complication is that I am short - 5ft - normally size 10 at the top and 12 at the bottom. I have dark hair and can carry off quite bold colours.

Should I just get a maternity dress? the wedding is in 3 weeks.

Any advice before I resign myself to going in my jeans ?

I would probably go for a maternity wrap dress- it will grow with you. You might find that you have a wee spurt bumpwise now and then nothing much happens for a while, so you don't want to end up with something which you can't wear again.

this is lovely, and in the sale too, in pink! and another sale one!

I agree wrap dresses are great. Tbh, it doesn't even need to be a maternity one - maybe just a slightly bigger size. As you grow, you can wear it wrapped less tightly, with a vest top underneath if you are flashing too much nork.

I was 6 months and wore an evening dress from debenhams (not a maternity one), they have quite a few that are fitted round the bust and then flow over your tummy. I wasnt huge but you could def tell it was a baby bump. Prom dress would be nice for an informal affair.

I went to a wedding when pregnant last year. I didn't wear a maternity dress I wore a loely long dress which 'fell' from under the boobs (what ere these called?).

I got it from Monsoon.

Come to think of it, the Monsoon 70% sale is on right now, my advice is get yourself down there a.s.a.p.!

What kind of wedding is it?

What kind of thing would you wear normally? Summer dress? Floral? Plain? Little black number? More formal?

Right, the Monsoon 70% sale is in the shops not on the site, but just for ideas ...

A maxi dress like these would be the right sort of shape. If they are too long you could get them taken up. (Your local dry cleaners probably offers this service)

Or a baby doll shape dress comes out IWKWIM and could fit a modest bump.

Or any A-line dress.

Is empire line the right phrase for the long ones?

I reckon a 3mo bump could fit under these. Do you like any of them (they are wildly different styles! I was going for shapes which could work.)

dress with corsage

Floral shift dress might work if the cut is generous enough

Chilli Couture Silk Digital Pixel Print Dress some bold colours for you

Antik Batik Sleeveless Silk V-Neck Shift Dress

Coast Painted Print Halterneck Dress again it might work if the cut is generous enough

Fornarina Rose Trimmed Babydoll Dress

Renee London Frilled Cuff Detail Jersey Slim if you've got great legs and feel confident!

Femme Tulip Layered Dress silk, comes in pink cream and grey

Mango Oriental Print Scoop Neck Silk Dress

Mango Printed One Shoulder Silk Maxi Dress

Miss Sixty Printed Babydoll High Shine Dress

Warehouse Hypnotic Print Silk Shift Dress

Antik Batik Lurex And Floral Print Maxi Dress

I went to a wedding at 22 weeks earlier this year, and after trawling through all the maternity opitions I could find, settled for a dress from debenhams (non mat) in a size up from normal. Your bump is unlikely to be so big that you need all the extra material a maternity tent dress provides

Agree with empire line dresses.

I like the catwalk video feature on that site.

So, twofalls how am I doing? Are any of those remotely like something you'd like to wear? Brutal honesty please!

thank you for the tips. A wrap dress isn't a bad idea actually and lowrib, I do love those maxi dresses from Monsoon you linked to.

I also like the coast and the MissSixty dresses and a few of the others you linked to but I think at the moment, I just don't want to show too much flesh. i feel really bloated and fat and not at my best - you know when you don't look pregnant, just a bit porky?! But thank you - you have given me loads of ideas.

slowbob, love the pink wrap dress. Might get that anyway!

right, off to look at monsoon and Debenhams.

cross posted lowrib! Yes, I did like a quite few of them but not right now if you know what I mean. DH says its in my head but i don't even like my arms at the moment. Perhaps I should just wear a tent

I really like the first black and white one - very pretty.

I do know what you mean about not feeling your best. I'm 20 weeks pg now but initially just felt really bloated and generally uuuurrrrggghhh. I did find that the more fitted things were around the middle, the more I looked pg rather than just a bit chubbier iyswim. Avoid a tent

Treat yourself to a bit of pampering - get your hair done and/or have a couple of beauty treatments. It'll help you feel better

I love the colour and style of this

this is pretty

lovely

The first black and white one is really nice, and the Monsoon empire line one is lovely

Seriously, get down to their sale while it's still on. I found a really nice summer dress there last week, reduced from £85 to £15, and the dress I wore to the wedding when pregnant was also Monsoon sale £180 reduced to £50.

No one does dresses quite like Monsoon.

Thanks, hopefully going shopping tomorrow so I will keep you posted. Am actually looking forward to it now thanks to your suggestions

And tillyscoutsmum, I think you are right. DD will be at gps the day of the wedding and I have some vouchers for the local salon so I might book a manicure and a hair do as a bit of a treat. it will probably make me feel loads better.

hello, in case any of you are still here, I got a dress

Monsoon outlet store, £100 reduced to £25. Empire line cream silk with red flowers, black band round the empire line bit, scoop neck and little sleeves, sits just below the knee. i have already got high, bright red peep toe shoes and a red bag.

It actually makes me look like i have a baby bump rather than just fat so am very happy! And it was a size 10 (must have been mis-labled, no way I am a 10 at the moment ).
