Is it hormonal? (or are you really called Rupert?)

I found evening primrose helped a bit, sunshine helps (some chance) but the only thing that has really cleared my skin is being peri-menopausal.

I had terrible skin a couple of months back, posted about it on here. got lots of recommendations and ended up doing the following

washing with neutrogena oil free wash daily, using the mask/face wash too as a mask twice a week, using the blackhead clearing cleanser daily .

i use almond oil to moisturise at night and oil of olay origional in the mornings

i have stopped using cleansing wipes

has made a noticeable difference to my skin.

i have also been using tinted moisutiser rather than foundation on a daily basis and a mineral powder

have still had the odd spot or two , but i was t the point of tears and not wanting to go out when i posted baout my skin as it was that bad

Microdermabrasion worked really well for me - its bloody expensive though and you have to stop when pg.

OK, perimenopausal might be a bit long to wait maybe, but I can do all Lulu's suggestions.

one thing that i have learnt is that there is no point not moisutising skin, even if it is oily

regular exfoliation and moisture means you can get your make up on better

i got a really nice salt scrub from lush, you can get it mail order

Oh and the nurse who was treating me told me to use a fresh towel/kitchen roll sheet every night to dry the face after cleansing and to be more scrupulous about pillows etc and that really did work. Until I got bored and stopped doing it.

i have found a real difference to my skin since stopping using them , i tihkn they dried my skin out and made it over produce oil, then more spots. even the ones for dry skin.

i have jsut found it works for me

I had roaccutane years ago, but the side effects were awful for an overall effect that was far from perfect, so I'm not doing that again.

Just remembered, Dianette pill worked wonders for me.

Hi all.

I'm 36 as well with medium to bad spots. I have an appointment with the dermatologist in September and was hoping to get Roaccutane. I've had it before many years ago and didn't find it too bad, and the results were brilliant. What side effects have people had that found it awful?

Report
MrsMcCluskey · 22/07/2009 20:34

I was on Dianette for ages and it was great but my Gp wont give it to me now as i am over 35

Report
giantkatestacks · 22/07/2009 22:22

Yes another vote for the dianette here too if they will let you have it - the last time they tried to fob me off with something they said was just the same but it didnt work half as well.

With roaccutane my lips split so badly they bled down my chin so I basically couldn't smile or laugh for 6 months.

An eye-wateringly expensive but effective solution that helped me was Chinese Herbal Medicine, I went here and it was BRILLIANT! Also sorted out various other ailments at the time. I saw Andrew Flower - who looks like a right wierdo in the photo of him (strange choice of pic) but is actually rather lovely and very kind and sympathetic.

Cleansing wipes are crap, they do not cleanse. I find (and it sounds silly) not touching my face makes a huge difference to my skin. If I lean on my hands I always come out in a crop round my jaw.

Good cleansing and mineral make up have helped my skin, and the microdermabrasion exfoliator from Time Delay in Boots.

get pregnant [runs]

it's the only thing that clears mine up totally

otheriwse second all suggestions: ditch cleansing wipes, use dedicated spotty cleansers (I liek the Johnsons Clean & Clear but the Neutrogena stuff is good too). Using a muslin to take the cleanser off a la Liz Earle is worth a try too.

And do moisturise - the best one I've found is the c&c with 1% salicylic acid but you can only get it in the US (cheap in any drugstore).

and def keep your hands off your face - I can tell when I have read a long report at work as the Chin Spots come out.

I find gentle daily exfoliation really helps with spots.

Clinique anti blemish solutions (the body spray has really helped with spots on my back!)

Scrubbing my back with long handled brush using Neurogena face wash.

Chin spots - well I am still getting them, but using medicating cleansing wash has helped. I am also using the Time Delay microdermabrasion.

God it's vile isn't it. I really resent being 30 but having the skin of a teenager!

I had beautiful skin for years while on Dianette, came off it to get pg (now 15 weeks) and my skin went through a horrendous patch when I first stopped taking it, and even now I'm 2nd trimester I still have a couple of spots... what happened to the "blooming" huh .

Would second the recommendation for the nutrogena wash. Has anyone tried that nutrogena Wave gizmo yet and found it any good?

I find too much exfoliation can cause spots. Am I alone in this?
