It was for the dining room. I drove miles to buy it.

I've taken it down. I'm barly speaking to him.

So what wouldn't look cheap and tacky and ridiculous in my dinding room???

cheesesarnie Sat 11-Jul-09 16:51:45

Maybe it's an Emperor's new clothes type of thing and ls is hoping we'll all just say it's lovely cos we can't see it grin

LaurieFairyCake Sat 11-Jul-09 16:55:52

it's lovely, not cheap, not tacky

he's wrong smile

mumofmaniacs Sat 11-Jul-09 16:57:16

Erm...I think I may agree with your DH blush

KnickKnack Sat 11-Jul-09 16:57:22

Sorry LS, but I agree with your husband
It reminds me of a cheap student house or an old old granny house.

MrsSeanBean Sat 11-Jul-09 16:57:28

It's not a good picture, but I am a big Laura Ashley fan. It certainly wasn't cheap and I'd be surprised if it was tacky.

Why did you take it down? What did you think once it was in situ? If you love it, keep it.

nickytwotimes Sat 11-Jul-09 16:57:29

I like it too.

Your dh knows nothing!

Tinker Sat 11-Jul-09 16:57:30

I don't think it looks cheap. Not quite my taste but I think it's quite pretty.

I'm wishing I was right too sorry.

Lulumama Sat 11-Jul-09 16:59:52

oooh, don;t like it. don;t think it looks cheap and tacky, but a bit of an odd mix of textures etc.. sorrreeeee

cyteen Sat 11-Jul-09 17:01:16

It does look a bit grannyish to me blush Sorry. But then I have spent my life in rented accommodation and still have paper ball shades at the age of 33, so you can probably discount my opinion on interior design.

Tinker Sat 11-Jul-09 17:02:43

I positively like paper ball shades - classic design (I tell myself)

I think its one of those things that could look or amazing depending on how its done

modrin Sat 11-Jul-09 17:18:47

i love the lara one underneath and dont bother with dh i have 3 males in this house and make damn sure i have my feminine (personal taste) stamp on it Pink Chairs chandeliers etc

LynetteScavo Sat 11-Jul-09 17:21:38

I admit it didn't look totally amazing - but the room is with out skirting boards, dining table or curtains as we've jsut has a new floor put down. It did make me think maybe we should have some wall paper in the room. I liked though.

I don't think there was any need for DH to physically flinch when he saw it, though. I mean, it's now going to jump down and attack him. hmm

Suddenly paper ball shades are seeming quite an atractive option.

squeaver Sat 11-Jul-09 17:23:19

I don't think it's that bad but my personal taste would be to go for one without the beads.

Heated Sat 11-Jul-09 17:23:25

it'll be a bugger to clean

LaurieFairyCake Sat 11-Jul-09 17:23:46

what about a chandelier? would that fit in with the style of your house?

you can go a bit mad in dining rooms as they're not used as much - I love wallpaper in dining rooms as they are not such high-traffic areas.

Greensleeves Sat 11-Jul-09 17:23:58

oooh, I can't stand it when blokes do that physically recoiling thing

dh does it in clothes shops if I pick up something not to his taste

it makes him look like he is swallowing a hunk of gristle

I quite like the creamy pleatedness but think the sparkles underneath clash a bit

but not cheap and tacky at all IMO

SofiaAmes Sat 11-Jul-09 17:25:20

I think it's lovely, but it is quite feminine and might not work in a dining room. Really depends on what else you do in the room
