I am going to a ball this weekend, I have the ballgown (same one as last year but different people there!). Last year I wore a pair of strappy shoes with it that matched the colour of the gown. The only problem was that they had a small heel on and as I am quite tall, the front of my shoes showed under the bottom of the dress - i think the heel just made it look the tiniest bit too short.

So... this year, I want to wear completely falt shoes. The dress is below in a dark red/wine colour. Gem is colour on website, but it looks deeper red in the flesh.

I have a pair of unworn black satin jewelled flip flop shoes....do you think that I will get away with these in the slight chance anyone sees them under the dress? They are dressy but not too much. I would take a black satin bag too if I could wear them.

What do you think to both black shoes with the dress and also with them being flip flop style?

lovely dress.
are you sure it's too short with the same colour shoes.
i think seeing the toes of shoes is ok, as long as we don't see your ankle.

Wouldn't wear flip flops with a ball gown as they will end up being seen at some point - what on earth is wrong with the front of your shoes being seen? Ankles, yes, looks wrong, but not the toe of the shoe. Particularly if they're the same colour...

well there is a question...I think it looks too short - when i walk in it, you can see my toes as the strappy sandals are too high i think. You think that look is ok?

I havent got and cant find anywhere a bag to match though, so would have to use black satin clutch.

I presonally think that seeing a little bit of your foot/ankle would be preferable to (albeit smart) flip flops with your very beautiful dress.

Black shoes would be fine with the dress imo, but you need something dressier than the ones you are planning. Sorry.

Also, coloured shoes & black bag are fine imo. I actually think that matching bag & shoes can look a little dated now.

Me toooooo... SO over matchy matchy shoes and bag. And I really like to see people's shoes under dresses, otherwise you just like you've got rollerskates on

thank you ladies

No need to say sorry Rindercella, i wanted honest opinions and dont mind the truth when i say flip flops, i dont mean rubber ones, i do mean dressy ones!

BUT.....I am glad you all think it is ok to see the front of my shoes.....so its ok if the front of dress doesnt quite touch the floor? The back is ok as it has a tiny train on it so is long enough.

And a black satin bag with it? The material on the dress is kind of shot through satin that has a slight look of black in the shot, if you understand...crap at explaining these things.

My other shoes are very similar to this, but in same colour as dress

Yep, they're perfect, and I think a black bag will look absolutely fine with it all. If it makes you feel a bit more co-ordinated you could always wear a jet necklace or ear-rings. Def no flip flops though - promise us.

thank you Lulu.

You do understand what I mean by dressy flip flops? lol.

I am also quite tall so paranoid about looking too tall or things looking too short on me which is why i thought of the flip flops. Dress would touch the floor and hang much better....or so I thought.

I am going to wear diamond necklace and earings so no probs there.

Ok.....if you really insist I will try and promise you!

Well I have tried my dress on with both shoes now and my DP agrees with you all!

I do think that they look a little better too, and the dress not quite touching the floor is becoming more bearable!

Thanks ladies
