1940's fashion - help needed for school trip - what to wear.

Hi,

I'm going on a school trip tomorrow as a parent helper. I have just found out that I have to wear 1940's style dress as it is a WWII evacuation trip.

Were halterneck dresses around then as that's what I was planning on wearing in this heat?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm not hot on fashion history.

Thanks

Halter necks were not really the going thing in the 1940s.

Tea dress type thing, with shoes?

Or failing that go for the Land Girl look. Wide trousers, husband's shirt. Like this

Yes they were. You could wear them with little gloves (Im thinking white or lace ones - but obviously could be a bit short notice to get hold of something like that!)

I went to a 1940s day at DD's school - picture on profile. Dress was a genuine early 1940s dress, as was the belt and bag.

Could you go as a land girl maybe?

Thanks for the advice. I wore the halterneck as it was going to be a scorching hot day. Wore it with a straw hat covered in flowers.

It was a lovely day.

Thanks again.
