I'm never going to wear this am I?

.... How would you wear this? Or should I just give up now?

I was looking round hte shops, mainly for stuff for my dds as we're going away for a few days (closest we've got to a holiday since having children so I'm quite --sad== excited) but I think all the sunshine went to my head....

I bought this

It's LOVELY. Not sure the pic does it justice, it's lovely soft jersey fabric, drapes really nicely. Was vaguely thinking I'd wear it over jeans or something and with a tshirt underneath it as really a bit too flat-chested to wear it otherwise. Gah. It is lovely but I think I'm reliving my youth and seeing my 19-year-old self in it when I try it on.

I'm 35. Not a bad shape (size 10) though the kind of marble white and veiny legs that mean I never usually show them. Had though wearing this over jeans or leggings maybe?

I'm kidding myself aren't I? I'm never going to wear it. And I probably won't get back to the shop in 14 days to return it. This is why I have hardly done any clothes shopping for the last 3 years

Gah. Strikethrough didn't work. Meant to say sad, as in a bit pathetically over-excited about a 3 day weekend in Norfolk at Centre Parcs!!

Over jeans or leggings, even linen trousers

Wear it. Over (tight) jeans or leggings. Go on.

I think it's lovely - I'd wear it over white cropped jeans(can't do leggings, too old).

Around here they are worn with leggings, cropped cardis and ballet flats.

I think that it is nice for a very casual, fun weekend and you are the right size to carry it off.

There's nothing wrong with wearing something that makes you feel young!

i really like it.either over leggings or treat yourself to fake tan on legs before you go!

Report
OhBling · 26/06/2009 13:48

Definitely wear it.

And if you want to wear it without trousers - invest in some fake tan. If it's just your legs the cheapo stuff from boots will do a surprisingly good job!

I've just bought myself , a few of these sort of style tops in different colours.

I wear it over the top of a pair of linen trousers and a vest in 1 colour (ie white) with a contrast colour top over the top ( ie red) or with linen type jeans and a vest.

I also have lots of differnet colour havianas , that match the colours of my clothes, so would wear red haviana's that day.

I've been wearing them for the school run and had lots of compliments.

Give it a try

I have a similar dilemma over a shortish Comptoir des Cotonniers dress.

Made worse by the fact that it was quite expensive even in their pre-sale.

Am thinking I would dare to wear it in winter with a black roll-neck/polo-neck and thick opaques.

Am working up to going down the leggings route as you are being advised but can't quite take the plunge.

Good luck.

I'd wear it and I'm 39 with small perfectly formed norks.

I'm 2 years older than you and a size 18 and if they did it in my size I would wear it with black or navy capri pants and a thin cropped cardi.

you with your figure will look lovely in it

Oh wow, thank you! First time I've asked about a specific item and was half expecting everyone to guffaw at my poor taste!

It totally is something i would have worn in my teens (with opaque tights as I NEVER showed my legs) and doc martens probably!

Okay - I tried it with linen trousers but the wide leg with the floaty top all looked a bit too big iykwim? I have two pairs of jeans - New Look Hula and a bootcut pair from Next that are slim fitting (but not skinny) but then flared obviously as they are bootcut. Not sure how good either of them looks? Maybe I should look for some cropped ones (ooooh, have never owned cropped trousers before!)

I have black full-length leggings (which I have also never worn ) but am wondering if mid-calf might look more summery.... obviously not wearing black would definitely be more summery but colours are a bit scary.

God am crap at this!

Moonmother - where did you get tops like this? I would be interested to know as I really do like this and if I feel brave enough on holiday, might want to expand my wardrobe!

Feels like a dress without quite being brave enough to wear a dress if that makes sense?

Florence - have ballet flats! Wow, am almost there!

OhBling and Cheesesarnie - yikes, the fake tan option... not sure if I can do it but am starting to feel ridiculous in this heat with fully covered-up legs. But would also then have to shave/veet legs properly and that's a big ask for a lazy arse busy mother of 2 like myself

HSFY - yes, I'm thinking in autumn/winter I'd be much more likely to wear with opaque tights and a long-sleeved top under it (though suspect my little darlings would endlessly try lifting my skirt as DD1 did when I was trying it on this morning - must be the novelty of mummy in something other than a tshirt and maternity trousers!)

Ooo it's lovely. I would defo wear with leggings. Especially as you're slim
Might look a bit bulky over linen trousers or jeans (unless very skinny ones).

I ones I bought have asymetrical (sp) hems and no pockets, but have a racer back on them.

I bought a couple from Tesco's , and 3-4 in different colours from Primark..

I bought mine originally for my Holiday too, I tried one on just to see what it looked like, and have been wearing them since .

Not the same one I hasten to add.

The ones in Tesco, were £8 , and the Primark ones £6.

I'm a short arse, so can't wear cropped trousers, but I've also tried them on with leggings, and they look good with them too.

I also will wear them in Winter , either with leggings/tights/skinny jeans and boots, with perhaps a skinny long sleeved t-shirt/poloneck underneath

Oh thanks MM - they look lovely too. Tesco is perfect actually (we don't have a Primark here).

Am really encouraged by everyone's reaction so I'm going to try to wear it on holiday.

Now have a week to locate some cropped trousers or shorter leggings (possibly not black).....

HaventSlept (oh how I know the feeling!) - maybe we should make a pact and have a Leggings Day where we brave it and wear it with leggings in public?

Will let you know. Children very busy driving me nuts all afternoon so lovely thoughts of shopping and hols all driven from my shouty-mum-for-goodness-sake-put-your-sister-down-and-stop-eating-sudacrem brain...

Yes I think mid calf leggings could look more summery - with flip flops and definitly a nice close fitting vest top underneath rather than t-shirt. nice dress by the way
