Just been to salon where I have been getting a single colour done a few times. Discussed highlights and as I have dark hair, mentioned "caramel" and subtle. I've ended up with white blond stripes through the top of my head, and I'm going to a special event on Friday night, and I've no child free moment in the next three days to go back to the salon. What should I do? I want to dye the whole lot,to darken the white stripes but I don't know if that will make them go a strange colour, or if I need to wait 24 hours? Any advice would be very welcome. I am dreading the school run and trying to find a hat ....

I think you have to be very careful dying hair back from blonde. You have to go more reddish than your natural tone or they look green (have not ever done it myself at home, had it done in a salon when I decided that my highlights were getting too expensive to keep up). Hopefully someone more experienced will be able to confirm this.

DO NOT try and sort this out yourself, go back to the salon, and tell them you are unhappy and make them sort it out for free. Just take the kids if you have to.

Why didn't you say anything at the time btw?

Thanks Wizzska. I thought I'd heard about the green thing - but didn't know what to do to avoid it. I won't rush out and buy the hair dye just yet then ...

Go back and ask for someone more senior to re-do them.

I did say something at the time, but I had to go to pick my son up from the childminder so I couldn't get anything done then. I thought that maybe I'd be more comfortable with it when I'd seen it for a while. Unfortunately taking the children isn't really an option. 19mth old boy and hairdressers don't mix. Just spoken to the salon and they say it needs more toner, and they can do it if I come in. Does that sound like the way forward?

Oooh this happened to me last week - I also asked for subtle and got very blonde - not quite white though!
Did we go to the same Salon?! (Love?)
Ive got used to mine and actuially dont mind/quite like it now!!
Besides it fades quite quickly anyway and they sort of blend in with your hair more.

I have got them fixed - thank goodness A very kind friend saw them, and suggested that she should have my kids so that I could get back. Glad you like yours now helium .
