Have I been wrong about cropped trousers all this time - are they actually quite flattering?

I have always avoided them thinking they were unflattering to 'larger' ladies but something DH said this weekend has got me thinking and am beginning to see that they might be an alternative to skirts when it is hot.

Are they flattering to all sizes or should they be avoided by people with big bums??

(Am thinking of the cargo-style ones rather than linen ones)

I have a big bum and hunmungous thighs and have come to the conclusion that everything is unflattering until I loose weight so I went and bought some this week and and have ad lots of compliments. They do make you look shorter in the leg tough

they look best if they stop just below the knee -not calf length which will makes your legs looks stumpy

or tapered in to just below calf

OK if you have long legs.

yes, you can't wear them if you have shorter legs imo/e, regardless of arse size.

I wore them, till I said something to DH about my 3/4 trousers, and he said "You mean your 9/10th trousers?", me being vertically challenged.

I bit him in the shins and threw them away

Well I am 5ft 8 with 33inch legs so I guess I qualify for the 'long legs' criteria

I have ordered some from M&S so will try them on and see what they look like - I always wear flip flop-type sandals - are these going to look ok? I just don't do ballet pumps!!

Better with flip flops imo!

Crop trousers are better than wearing shorts though. It's a choice between rather unflattering and positively frightening.

Blithe so true!! I am really a 'skirt' gal but am in between wardrobes at the moment as am halfway through losing 4 stone (and am currently at a size I haven't been before iyswim) - so my nice pre-DC skirts still don't fit and my post-DC skirts are too frumpy big but can I find any decent nice summery skirts in the shop at the moment?? Absolutely nothing - hence why I am thinking cropped trousers might be a better bet (plus with 2 DS's, skirts are really not designed for rolling around in the garden playing wrestling )

I was looking at various sizes of women(,short, tall fat skinny) today in cropped trousers and I think they all looked fine tbh and I was casting a super critical gaze as if I was trinny and susannah.

Alright they didn't look supermodel glamorous but for day to day wear they were nice .
