Is it me or do all curvy women look more tarty in summer clothes?

I am a size 10, but a curvy one. I have 32E boobs and a good size bum and hips.
My SIL is size 10 but a straight up and down size 10, 32A boobs and hardly any bum at all.

She wears boob tubes, strappy low tops and little shorts and just looks summery and cool.

I try and wear those things and look like a slut with curves everywhere!

Snot fair [pout]

Too true.

Sorry, but I think even in the early 80s there was something a bit iffy about boob tubes, regardless of body shape. She really won't be looking cool in a boob tube.

I have no tits worth mentioning and I'm very jealous of your statistics (is that the right word?) - I bet your SIL is moaning to her friends how good you look and how it's snot fair.

I look like I am saying wahay boys...come n get me!

I want to wear a vest top or a strappy dress and my norks are escaping. Wahhhhhh!!!!

Crikey PersonalClown you sound knockout !

I am also a curvy person (5' 7", sz 12, small/average bum, average hips, reasonable waist, 32F) and I know what you mean about looking a bit slutty. I think it is possible to look summery and cool with curves but you have to be more careful than the more boyish/athletically shaped ladies.

Larger women look either slutty or frumpy in an outfit that looks perfectly respectable or trendy on a thin woman.

Take the ugly better tank top with shirt underneath look. Looks so groovy on a thin girl, looks frumpy on a booby girl.

You can get away with a lower cut top if your boobs aren't big. Exactly the same top on a booby girl looks slutty

Not fair but definitely true.

Agree.

Tits and arse aren't good for summer clothes, however men wouldn't agree.

I saw a couple of teenagers the other day who were very err curvy. They both had on very short skirts, one with bright red tights, the other with purple tights. Their thighs were MASSIVE and the tights just drew attention to them. I just thought of those characters from Viz!

Grapefruitmoon - the thing is, sounds like the girls you saw were overweight, not just curvy. I am curvy without being overweight - size 12 from ribcage down; bra back size 30", cup size J. And I look like a slut in vest tops etc. Grr.

Couldn't agree more FSticks

It IS exceedingly difficult to dress well (and keep cool) in the summer when one is norktastically challenged ...

Short sleeves are awful on me, white and other light colours make me appear even more huge and tunics and kaftans are too tent-like ....

and good bras are so HOT ... it's tantamount to carrying a hot water bottle around on your chest ...

If anyone has any tips I'd be grateful ...

I don't think they look tarty unless the clothes they have on are too small for them, causing overflowing muffin tops and other protruding bits.

If the clothes fit, then imo you don't look tarty, you look sexy . Nothing better than a curvy figure, lovely in fact.

Unhelthily fat is a different matter though, it does end up looking tarty, especially if the clothes are tight.

It is very true. I wore a white cotton and lycra tshirt today (38DD) and really wished I hadn't. It's very hard though - flowing tops that fall from your nipple line make you look about 3 stone heavier but stuff that's more fitted just emphasises the norkage

I'd be happy as a pig in shit if I could go out for the day in a strappy top and no bra combo

In MY day, really curvy teenagers would have been too self-conscious to wear the same fashions as their thin peers. Now they all wear the same stuff, regardless of an extra 3 or 4 stone! I suppose it's good that they have the confidence. Bad that being overweight whilst still at school is commonplace now.

Even women with really small tits need to wear a bra with a vest top. There are certain tops I can wear without a bra, but certainly not a vest top.

I am 5'11 and a 14 with enormous norks and an arse. Floaty little dresses just make me look like a heffer. Strappy jobbies make me look like a particularly brazen street walker

Oh, and vest tops with my jelly belly? Obviously wrong wrong wrong, even in 80 degree hot. I got offered a seat on the tube today, complete with that warm-and-fuzzy smile reserved only for pregnant people. Fuck.

I can't wear anything floaty. It just looks stupid like an elephant wearing a tutu. I try I really do but I can't. Another 5'11er as well. Not overweight but even so I always look too big for pretty stuff. I make do with very simple shapes and nooooo frills/lace.

I find it a pain - I too am large on top. I spend a lot of time trying to dress down this particular feature. I'm resigned to always having to work a little harder to look edgy/fashion/cool.

And I remember the 80s/early 90s with a great deal of resentment. My adolescent, larger-norked self hit a cultural romance with the flat chest in a smorgasbord of self-loathing.

BUT I remember what Liz Jones wrote about her breast reduction, not having sex without her T-shirt on and I try very hard to have a little self-love.

We're the shape we are; it's a pita that society reads that in an overly-sexualised way.

That said, I doubt I'll be rocking the boob-tube, fluoro look.

[Timorous high-five to fucksticks and Personalclown.]
