What to wear to knock former love of my life and his wife dead?

OK, so coming up is a friend's 4oth at which an ex of mine whom I was madly in love with and to some extent never got over, even though I dumped him.

This was 16 years ago but I still have dreams about him - probably because we never had proper "closure" to be American. Am v happily married and know if I'd married this guy it would have been a disaster but it was the big emotional watershed of my twenties and they say you never completely recover from your first heartbreak. p

I will see him and his wife for the first time in years at the party and obviously want to look incredible without looking like a desperate WAG iykwim. Sad, I know. But human. I'm 5'7, size 10,fair and in need of a new party frock anyway for all the other 40ths coming up. Any suggestions gratefully received .

A very big satisfied smile will go terrifically with whatever you wear

A couple of handgrenades as earrings? That'd do it.

Hope you find something lovely. Can offer no help as I have no style whatsoever. Tis a medically proven fact.

Sorry, probably not the advice you need but I think you really need to sort out your feelings towards him. This should not still be affecting you this much 16 years on.

Mrs Merry has sound advice...

As for clothes, anything as long as you feel comfortable, as that will boost your confidence.

i have an ex that i specifically avoided in the street even though i would ahve loved to speak to him, i was wearing an cagoul and an involuntary fat suit so i know were you are coming from.

what sort of style are you into?

Mrsmerry thanks that is good advice but my feelings are generally sorted - like I say I know the dreams etc are just because we never had a proper break up, it all just trickled away. I certainly have no desire to get back together. Just don't want him to think "Christ, that was a lucky escape." Our relationship was big gossip at the time (we worked together) and a lot of the gossips will be there and agog to see how we react to each other, so far more eyes will be on me than normal.

Am usually a dress wearer at parties, went through a big Diane von Furstenberg phase but I think wrap dresses are over now. Not averse to jeans and a beautiful top maybe?

I would avoid overtly sexy and aim for elegant and subtly sexy. I think that this is very Betty in Mad Men and would show off your slim figure without looking too man eating!

lk bennett

Alternatively, would you consider wearing something really unflattering for the sake of their marriage?

Sorry, just read your last message. Anusha have some very beautiful things.

Florence - nearly there! Thanks. But I think that particular dress might show off too much upper arm, not my strongest point. With sleeves and we're talking ...

I'm sure their marriage can withstand my appearance otoh I don't want his wife thinking "Crikey, I needn't have worried about her"

Damn you Florence! Some of my salary is quite probably going to end up being spent at Anushka now.

I have no will-power....

X post Florence!

Thanks for introducing me to Anusha , how come I never knew about this? Am perusing carefully. I love the playsuit but have already started a jumpsuit thread today [bored at work emoticon] and I think the consensus is they are only for the very young and skinny with strong bladders.

Will study website carefully ..

I am completely with you on the need to look amazing when seeing an ex. I met up with one of mine two years ago and never have I worked so hard in the gym in the period leading up to it. On his part, he admitted to having his teeth whitened plus lots of gym sessions!

That's such a shame about the Anusha stock. I think that a beautiful top plus jeans would be a great solution. I wore a plain long sleeved top,a beautiful beaded skirt and boots to my reunion. I liked the fact that I had very little skin showing but felt sexy.

Off to find you a gorgeous top with sleeves!

REALLY FANTASTIC< ARSE KICKING SLUTTY UNDERWEAR!

Then something demure and classy on top. That will put a twinkle in your eye that everyone will notice and nobody will be able to put their finger on.

Oh and killer heels...red, killer heels.

It was sher - but the neckline is a little too high - I tried it on. They had one in Reiss but have run out of my size

Make sure you get your hair done and get a spray tan as well so that you look lightly tanned but not tangoed!

I love this here

OMG I love the Moschino dress

Maybe I could do sleeveless

But it's ££££

Bandage top is gorgeous but would reveal too much sun-damaged chest, my worst point. McQueen also gorgeous but way too grand for this occasion. Still thinking jeans and top is the way forward - somehow to me a dress is more man-pleasing and I don't want him to think he was at the forefront of my mind when getting ready [big lie emoticon]
