Birkenstocks - worth the money or cheap alternative?

Nearly bought a pair today for £39 but thought I'd hold off to find a cheaper kind of sandal. Are birkies really that much better or is it just a lable thing?

i have a few () pairs of birkenstocks, & a couple of other pairs of fake ones, & the real ones are definitely more comfortable & harder wearing. and at 30 weeks pregnant i'm certainly getting wear out of them! the single strap madrid ones especially.

I bought three pairs last year , although they very very, cheap on e-Bay, less than half the price of the ones you saw today. I love them they are really comfy and still look brand new, looking forward to having the weather to wear them this year (we are in Scotland so it is still baltic ). IMO worth it but also worth shopping round, try e-Bay, think mine came from Germany but they were delivered in about two weeks.

hc, phew thought I may be the only person mad enough to have bought more than one pair! I second the Madrid suggestion, I have two pairs of Madrids and one pair of toe posts (Gizeh?) and I like the Madrids best.

Oh and I've got a friend who bought some M&S copies in the sale last year (so late on in the season) and she says they are done now so definately worth splurging a few extra pounds on the real thing!

I've got lemon (although they look more like cream) coloured Madrids and pink Madrids, I prefer the lemon ones, although I thought I would love the pink ones.
