I want a dress with a nod to India - rather than full-on fancy dress - for a Bollywood party

I'm thinking clever and subtle - just a gesture towards the theme - rather than a sari which I just wouldn't carry off. Any thoughts?

Sorry cant do the big long link thing

Goto Wallis website, evening dresses, yellow oriental shift dress.

It can be worn with leggings and gold glaidator sandals, topped with a little chic cardi for day wear too.

Gold Bangles for accessories - though I am pale so I would have to slap false tan on to make this work.

Lots of colours in to pick out inc turquoise and purple. I thinkit looks paler here than when I tried on.

I regret not buying it and your post has reminded me about it - just noticed they take paypal.....

How about this dress from Monsoon. Or this one.

bigcometobedeyes Fri 08-May-09 17:24:39

Amandoh - big fan of monsoon and I lurve the pink one

SoupDragon Fri 08-May-09 17:45:46

Oh how baout trousers and tunic

franch Fri 08-May-09 20:13:36

Oh, thanks so much everyone. Love the pink monsoon dress - altho I may be a bit flatchested for strapless.

Can I ask why you think you couldn't pull off a sari? I think they are so versatile and come in such beautiful colours.

I can highly recommend a 'proper' tunic and trousers - I bought one for a party several years ago and I dust it off quite regularly on special occasions! The top is absolutely beautiful

franch Fri 08-May-09 20:19:48

Thanks spice (and soupy) - I am really a dress girl tho

franch Fri 08-May-09 20:23:04

This is very much my kind of shape. Only the colour is Indian-ish tho - what could I do to nudge it in a Bollywood direction??

DarAmi Fri 08-May-09 20:23:26

Try a website called "Rupilee" i think it is.Sis is married to an indian and uses it for lots and not expensive.

spicemonster Fri 08-May-09 20:25:34

Eyeliner, jewellery (gold and filigree), henna handpainting?

DarAmi Fri 08-May-09 20:36:11

That site is www.rupalionline.com

PortAndLemon Fri 08-May-09 20:41:19

If I go for this Monsoon dress, what shoes should I wear with it?

Tortington Tue 26-May-09 11:39:10

www.east.co.uk/c/Clothing_tops.htm

just about anything from east

Disenchanted3 Tue 26-May-09 11:39:53

Personally Id go for the other pink one, that doesn't say Bollywood at all to me.

franch Tue 26-May-09 11:50:29

The other one's really not right for my body shape tho D3.

East looks good thanks custy - they don't seem to have eveningy stuff tho?

franch Tue 26-May-09 11:54:21

Whichever dress I go for, what kind of shoes?

Preferably not strappy sandals as I will probably wear nudey tan tights to hide my blue legs (unless I manage a fake tan which is unlikely and never quite works on me anyway)

Disenchanted3 Tue 26-May-09 15:08:40

something like these??

Disenchanted3 Tue 26-May-09 15:10:40

here??

franch Sat 30-May-09 17:33:30

Oh they're nice D3 but I'd need heels! I'm really not trying to be authentic

franch Sat 30-May-09 21:13:30

Well that first pink dress has disappeared from Monsoon - I dithered too long. I really need something cheaper anyway I guess.

That Rupali site is v good value - I may go more Indian than I planned!
